CTD with freshly installed vanilla game

Hello, I'm having a problem with vanilla Fallout 3 and I really don't know how to solve it. Sometime ago I uninstalled the game and deleted all its files, but I recently re-downloaded it in order to play it again. When the download finished, I started the game and a CTD occurred as soon as the first logo appeared. I tried to sort the load order of the Falloy.esm and the DLCs with BOSS, I check with NMM that those .esm files were active, and I even loaded everything with FO3Edit, which didn't find any problems. As you understood, I didn't change anything: no mods, no ini tweaks, nothing. The game is currently installed in the Games folder (inside C:, for me). I hope someone will be able to help me. I currently can't play Fallout 3 in both my laptop and my PC at home. :(

I downloaded and install the GFWL, but still no success. I have the GOTY Edition, so I already have the latest update, and I don't have a quad-core. Any other help? I ran out of ideas some days ago...

right click the main exe and select properties, then details and tel me what version is say's you have.

I have the GOTY Edition

Retail or Steam? IT does make a difference as to what is installed on the PC.

system specs please, Full lay out. give us more to go on.

I can get you up and running in short time if I have the correct information from you.

EDIT: this is a fake patch file. use it: http://fs13.nexusmods.com/FS/Libs/Common/Managers/Downloads?Download&nid=120&fid=46419

It is hosted here on the nexus so it is legit. Both PC's and the same source, Desk top machine is not a laptop so these are two different systems, hardware, and installations. The only thing similar is the source and methods used by you.

Retail contains on the second DVD/cd " securom" Steam does not. Steam requires yet another factor for GOTY and both instances you will fight the hardware for a 2009 released game.

unless you hard ware is of that vintage? GFWL is used for retail versions of the game. your post indicates the correct procedures so far. not installed into x86, BUT, steam defaults to C:\program files and folders.

so things are not what they seem to be here. FOR steam, to lay off the game even though it is a steam game, Fallout 3 was never released as such until late. Ergo ,you need to go into steams settings and flat tell it to lay off the game, set it as a no steam game.

it only takes 1 single stick in the front wheels spokes to trow the user off. Just one. any byte of information can lock the game out.

run the launcher after you install the download linked file I provided, in the launchers screen menu, when it loads up, please hit the print screen key, and then use paint brush to secure the shot, save it as a jpg file, upload it to image share if some place I can see what you have.

Take note of the greyed out sections if any and post them too. I want you to replicate this procedure on both machines and dictate which is which.

You mean this Steam message with the activation key?

EDIT: I'm italian, so that's why the message may contain strange words XD Basically it tells me the product key for Fallout 3. Also, as you noticed, I can't post images from image share properly... XD

EDIT 2: I originally mentioned my laptop too, but I play only on the PC with the specs mentioned above, because I'm still downloading Fallout 3 on the laptop...

Go to http://fallout.bethsoft.com/eng/downloads/videos.html and download the 1.7 patch. Steam is just a vendor like any other store. They sell the same game just as it is sold in stores.

If your processor is an AMD Phenom II X4 810, it is a quad core and you will have to do the changes to the FALLOUT.ini. "AMD Phenom II X4 810 Deneb 2.6GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Processor", this is what comes up when what you have said is your processor.

Sorry I didn't mention this before, but I remember just now. A while before installing Fallout 3 I tried to copy my modded Fallout 3 game files from the laptop to the PC (the one we're talking about), and I was able to play thanks to FOSE not requiring Steam (that didn't recognize the game, because it wasn't installed). Why I did that? Well, I didn't have Internet connection and I didn't want to use the laptop for games anymore... I then deleted everything reguarding Fallout 3 before downloading it properly from Steam. I hope that didnt mess anything up...

EDIT: Fallout 3 worked well until December 2013 on that same PC. The first time I played it I just dowmloaded it from Steam and everything worked fine. FOSE and mods worked too. The settings for quad core are automatically implemented in the Fallout.ini. I checked.

EDIT 2: Aaaah, you meant the lancher window itself, kitty... Sorry I didn't understand. Here you go: http://www.image-share.com/ijpg-2450-282.html
