Why do people believe katanas are the best swords?

In conclusion, let me write something that everyone can agree with.

Each sword is the best at what it does. And each one is more demanding for what it does, while others won't do more at the measure that they are less demanding.

More reach = Longer of an item to carry.

vs.

Short enough to carry = Shorter range.

Larger blade and/or larger crossguard= takes more space when storring it or carrying it on yourself...

...And so forth...weight, versatility, etc.

You get what you invest in, and you are condemned to invest in what you get.

Each various type of steel for your sword also has advantages and drawbacks at the same time.

And depending on the situation, advantages can be either useful or debilitating. (a spear in close quarters, anyone? And where exactly? At an entrance or in narrow labyrinthic passages?)

BTW, What's the best car? A big car to carry more people or more matterials? Or is it a smaller one that requires less fuel, that has the advantage of speed and agility and that can find its way in narrow places?

And even then, how big or small do you want your car to be?

So what's the best (and objective) answer to: "what is the best sword?".

Let me suggest two possible best answers:

* IT DEPENDS

* EACH SWORD IS THE BEST AT WHAT IT DOES

I do think Katana's are most lethal when it comes to none armored targets.

this do to weight and sharpness of the blade. i seen enough real beheading movies to know "katana" style sword is only good enough to cut of a head clean unlike a broad sword or gladius.
