Sorting mod creation issues

Hey there,

I'm trying to add a patch to my game for a few mods that haven't been covered by any "Sorting" mods. I can't seem to figure out how to make my sorting patch override the name of the items added by the original mod, instead I just seem to be adding duplicates.

What I've been doing:
I open up the mod in Creation Kit, not setting it to active file.

Find the item I want to edit the name of.

Right-click the item, choose "edit".

Change the name.

Save my changes to a new esp.

Put the new esp at the bottom of my load order just above my bashed patch.

So...what am I doing wrong? I've added the original mod as a master using TES5Edit, but that doesn't seem to do anything.

Clearly I am a modding newbie - I've only ever edited existing mods for my own use. I know I could just change the names and save them to the original file with no problem, but I thought it would be nice if I could make an actual Sorting Patch that I could share with the community.

Thanks!

@IsharaMeradin

Is there a way to do the esmifying process after the sorting patch has already been created?

Explanation: I've found some patches that already exist for some of the items I wanted done, but they do the thing I was doing before your help where they add extra, renamed items to the game instead of overriding the names of the original mod.

No idea to be honest. I never made a change to a record without the appropriate mods "esmified". You could try it, but I'm guessing that the plugin(s) with extra forms instead of modified original forms would need to have all those extra records deleted. Probably better to just do it right from the beginning and redo whatever modifications you want.

Aw well. Thanks, though.

Another question (if you have the time): is there a reason why I have trouble deleting some objects?

When I started to do this I saw that there had been copies created of the objects I had been working on. I right-click delete, save, reload - they're still there. What's up with that?

No idea.

However you might want to try the CK's version of mod cleaning.

Open the CK

Load your plugin and any parent esm/esp files

After it is all loaded, reopen the data file selector

Highlight your plugin

Press the details button

Feel free to widen all the columns so you can see the Editor ID# and other entries

Find what you want to remove, highlight and press the Delete key on the keyboard

That entry will be marked as Ignored

Close the details window, reload the plugins and save.

That entry should no longer be there on the next reload.

You could use TES5Edit but you need to know how to drill down to the specific records to find what you want to remove.
