Ini Edits don't take affect

My skyrimini. and skyrimprefs.ini edits do not take affect under any conditions.

Originally I only found a Skyrim_Defualt.ini in my Game folder directory, which I deleted, I then found the Ini directories inside My Documents/ and edited them for STEP. I also use Mod Manager and tried editing the Ini's through the ini edit option, I pasted the same settings on every ini file I can find on my computer by mass searching.

(there were more besides the ones in my documents and from mod organizer, which I deleted)

However, for some reason if I edit the ini in mod organizer and change the language to spanish it crashes (testing it), so it does seem to read the ini yet not take any changes.

I have the start sequence and the borders disabled through STEP ini set up neither take affect in game.

Looking for some help so I can finally mod the game.

I think you need to start over. Use the verify game cache function on stream to rewrite your .ini files.

Then, if you want to make changes, do so on the skyrim.ini and prefs.ini found in mydocuments\mygames.

As DT said, you should not touch the ones in your game folder.

BTW, there are a LOT of sites out there that suggest a LOT of magical .ini changes. Some of them (like the LargeAddressAware fix) are outdated and obsolete. Some of them will make no difference, some may help some people and not others, depending on your computer variables, and some are just nonsense. You will save yourself a lot of headaches if you first make a backup of the ini files you are changing, and second read everything you can find about any ini change you are considering, use reputable sources for researching your ini changes, and make changes only one at a time, and test thoroughly before trying anything else.
