ENB crashes Skyrim right after logo

Hello!

I'm not sure if I'm writing in the right subforum, but ENB is not really a mod, so figured it would be better here.

So I installed Skyrim on my new computer, and decided that it's high time to add some ultra high quality graphics to the game. I found RealVision ENB and installed it, (i followed all instructions on the mod page) but the game crashed right after the bethesda logo. I toyed around a bit with inis, wyre bash, LOOT and TES5EDIT (i followed this guide: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50214/ ) but to no avail. After reinstalling the game, this problem still persisted (after installing the mods, really carefully this time).

Then I tried to use ENB injector intead of the wrapper, and it really did help because i could play up to a certain point, where the game just exited without a single error, or any freezing. Just quit. After looking around for a solution, and finding none, I realized that the injector had to be run as admin to actually work (otherwise nothing showed up on the top left during the bethesda logo). Running it in administartor mode does result in the text in the upper left corner, but the game crashes again before getting to the main menu. Based on this, I beleive the logo crash is because of some incompatibility with ENB and the "second" crash is due to the fact that something was trying to use ENB while it was not running. (The crash happens when, during the "prologue" you jump out of the tower, then a kid runs over to the Nord imperial officer. He starts to say something and the game crashes mid sentence, no matter where I stand, where I'm looking at or anyting. As I mentioned, there are no error messages either, and the game runs flawlessly up to that point.)

Here are things I tried:

  • Make sure that i included the skse executable in the ENBinjector.ini
  • Update Directx9
  • Make sure that all requred ENB files are in my skyrim folder (and none of the unneeded ones)
  • Generate new ini files for skyrim and trying http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/51033/ (this latter actually crashed skyrim before the logo)
  • Uninstall Nnvidia Experience and check for any services and software that sound like they could cause problems, including the usually mentioned ones like Afterburner and such (i found none btw, my windows install is about 2 days old)
  • Uninstall mods (i did this after everything else, i used NMM)
  • In the process of a third skyrim installation, want to try running it with no mods and ENB to make sure it really doesn't work EDIT: Confirmed. Completely vanilla install and ENB still crashes Skyrim.
  • really wishing for everything to work (i think this helped a teeeeeeny bit more then any of the others...still not enought though :D )
  • EDIT: Tried appropriate ENBoost ini with the aformentioned vanilla install, still crashes.

I really don't like asking for help when there is no need, but I ran out of ideas completely. What could cause this? I saw a few people with a similar problem (new PC, relatively strong hardware) so maybe it's some missing installation (or a fine layer of dust somewhere) or possibly some conflict with newer hardware (I doubt it, mine is not absolutely top-tier, GTX 770 2GB, i5-4570 and 8GB DDR3 RAM...64bit Windows 7 Pro N). By the way, the similar problems were either unresolved or the solution there did not work for me.

Thank you for any advice you can give!

EDIT2: I think i managed to fix it somehow. I installed something the directx installer called "optional files" and both 32 and 64 bit versions of the Visual C++ 2010 redists. I will now try it with mods.

ENB runs now, but the game still crashes at the point I mentioned in the previous post. (After you jump out of the tower and the boy runs over to the Nord imperial officer, then the officer starts to say something and the game just quits).

I will try to disable some of my mods, but I seem to have a lot, so if there are more effective ways to do it, it would be great to hear them! Thanks!

EDIT: I got throught that point for unkown reasons. No crashes since then.

I set up papyrus to make a log for me, but it's full of errors. Not sure if that is okay, or should I do something about them. I certainly don't remember installing anything that requires some esp-s the errors mention.

This does bother me however:

[04/06/2014 - 07:12:49PM] Error: DialogueRiverwoodIntroScene (000954D9): attempting to start event scoped quest outside of story manager.
stack:
	[DialogueRiverwoodIntroScene (000954D9)].QF_DialogueRiverwoodIntroScen_000954D9.SetCurrentStageID() - "<native>" Line ?
	[DialogueRiverwoodIntroScene (000954D9)].QF_DialogueRiverwoodIntroScen_000954D9.SetStage() - "Quest.psc" Line 124
	[ (0002BFAC)].SF_MQ102HadvarAlvorScene_0002BFAC.Fragment_35() - "SF_MQ102HadvarAlvorScene_0002BFAC.psc" Line 27

Not exactly sure what it means, but the Riverwood scene did start somewhat strangely, and Haldvar was talking about my charaqcter as if she was there already while she just got there. Maybe it skipped something? Unsure.

Esps the papyrus indicates to be missing are:
Ars Metallica.esp
Chesko_Frostfall.esp
Chesko_WearableLantern.esp

There is also this:

[04/06/2014 - 07:14:20PM] Error: Unable to bind script TrapBear to TweakTraps (1100C515) because their base types do not match
[04/06/2014 - 07:14:20PM] Error: Unable to bind script traptriggerbase to TweakTraps (1100C515) because their base types do not match

And several other but these repeat. The question is wether I should care about them, and if so, how can I actually find what causes them? Wyrebash and LOOT doesn't mention missing esps or conflicts.

( I have no idea why every second line of the "code" blocks is white, sorry for the horrible readability.)

  • 2 weeks later...

Search for a nexus link called enboost for dummies. It's an odd post, but at the end was a recommendation to download the newest Direct X drivers from Microsoft. Once I did that (on a new install like yours) I no longer got the crash to desktop on startup like yours.

Good luck
