Hi guys,

Im new to the site and extremely new to modding. i bought fallout vegas with nexus mod manager and tried the modding. I thought it all worked great until i tried to load and kept crashing. I did a bit of reading and found out that some mods conflict so went through each one by one to try and find which was causing it.

I finally got a few to work but the characters in the game had large red circles around them with ! symbol. i lost my patience and deleted the whole game and mod manager to reinstall.

My question is can anyone give me a list of easy to use mods to install that will not conflict and give me a great enhancement on graphics from scenery, weather, lighting etc to characters, gns etc.

Im not to much bothered about content as i got all the DLC with it but want to greatly update the graphics for the whole game. Although i would be interested in some that make vegas look better and other bits to make the game visually better.

Guys i know this may seem lazy but i have trawled through previous posts and i think everything has been lost over the years with advanced modding.

thanks for anyone who can help.

I'd say take a look at Gopher's YouTube chanel. You can google it, access it through the Skyrim nexus (and then follow links to his New Vegas stuff), or I can come back later and post a link.

Sorry to not provide the list you're looking for, but my time's limited at the moment, and a video will provide you a LOT more troubleshooting than I can in a single post.

I'm not exactly an advanced user myself, but about a year ago when I got started, those videos were how I learned. I highly recommend watching through the basics even if you've read some stuff on how to make the mod manager work, because I'm still learning new things about load order and mod conflicts.

This'll cover a lot more than graphical mods, but it'll be worth it - you'll be able to mod in other stuff when you're interested in doing so. Good luck!

Red exclamation point is a missing mesh. You shouldn't run into this with a vanilla game. The game's own meshes are packed into .bsa archives; so unless you deleted one of those, or unless you still had a mod plugin active, you should not have seen them.

Purple models/meshes is a missing texture, similar to above.

"Crashing" is not enough info -- was it crashing as soon as you launch the game? Or did it launch, but crash just as it was about to show the main menu? Did it crash in game at a certain point?

If it crashed immediately on start, you had a missing master -- a plugin you had loaded, did not have a plugin that it depended on.

If it crashed when trying to load the main menu, you made some changes to HUD but lacked a referenced hud file being inherited.

If it crashed in game, it's likely a badly made mod, or some incompatibility between some.

You need to read or watch some modding FAW, like ustus suggested. You will want to make sure you use Archive Invalidation, etc
