Would like to hear more opinions for GPU I'm planning to get. (Also CPU recommendations requested)

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I have a prebuilt computer I got years ago, and I am looking to replace the parts in it. I already have my motherboard replaced, and I have asked others for their tips of what GPU to get for this computer as integrated graphics chips aren't nearly as good as dedicated cards.

So this is the one I'm so far planning to get: http://www.ncixus.com/products/?usaffiliateid=1000031504&sku=91928&vpn=R7260X-DC2OC-2GD5&manufacture=ASUS

Not too costly, and it matches the kind of memory my motherboard uses, and I tend to hear good things about that card.

So here are my current specs:

CPU

AMD Phenom X4 9750

Motherboard

ASRock A785GM-LE

RAM

4.00GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 399MHz

GPU

ATI Radeon HD 4200

I'm looking for recommendations for cards that are DDR2, and can work with my computer, and I'm thinking my cpu is starting to die down, so any recommendations for CPUs as well would be appreciated.

Video cards can't be DDR2. However, any video card will work with DDR2 RAM, even the GDDR5 card you listed.

Anyway, the 260X is quite a good video card for the price, and it will work with your PC as long as your power supply unit is strong enough. What is your power supply unit?

Your CPU isn't very good, but that motherboard has an AM3 socket, which does limit your options somewhat. You'd probably be best off with a Phenom II X4 965, which would be considerably faster than the one you have now. Not great, but probably the best you'll still be able to find for a reasonable price for your motherboard.

My power supply unit is a Cooler Master GX 750W

And even though my motherboard is very limited I just got it replaced in October of last year, so I would like to take as much use out of it as I can. So I'll add that CPU for a list of things to buy. It seems to be sold out on Newegg unfortunately, but I'm hoping there are other trustworthy sellers that I can buy online from.
