Links don't work on nexus sites

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this but it is the best part i could find.

For the past week and a half I have not been able to click certain links on ANY of the nexus sites(skyrim, morrowind, fallout, etc.). I have tried 4 different browsers and am currently on Chrome. I have also tried clearing the cache, cookies, and browsing data. An example of the problem is I can't log in. When I click not logged in, nothing happens. It doesn't show the login dialogue. Also, when I go to a file, I can get to the file fine, but then I cant click anything on there. I can't view changelogs, I can't see the download section, and I can't view comments. I'm not exactly sure when the problem started happening because I hadn't visited the site for about 2 months, but it was working early January for sure. I have tried everything and I hope maybe I can get some help from here.

You'll have to provide the actual "broken" links or we can't investigate. Might be something unique to those items.

(Obviously others are not experiencing this issue...)

If you are referring to NMM ( You didn't say) there was a major change in the way it works a while back. Certain older versions do not have access to the site because of the change. This was heavily posted and talked about for over two months.

You will have to manually download and install the newest version of NMM. Do Not uninstall the old version, just install the new one over it and you will not lose any mods you already have.

You may want to go back and read the changelogs to see what was changed

It no longer goes online when you start it. You MUST go online after starting the program if you want to do anything that requires being online.

It no longer checks for new mod versions automatically - you must use the check for new mod versions icon to check.

Thanks for responding. As for the first response, mainly I am using skyrim nexus: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/?. There is the link for that, and it is every single file on the site pretty much. I can't download anything. I like to download files manually and obviously I can't do that, so I decided to download NMM, and I do have the latest version. I logged in on that, with the same log in I used on the skyrim nexus, and when I click the download with manager button in the top right, nothing happens. And I was able to log in once earlier, but i'm back to not being able to do anything.

All those buttons you mention, the tabs on the mod page, the pulldowns/popups when hovering over site links (like login), etc., are working by JavaScript mainly.

Nothing happening when you click them sounds like something's blocking JavaScript on your end.

The "Download with manager" buttons also work with JavaScript, but them not working can also be a matter of the '.xul' filetype not registered to be opened with the NMM correctly in your OS or browser.

I'm not sure what would be blocking JavaScript. I do have adblock, but I have already tried disabling it, restarting my browser, and then trying again to no avail. I have checked in Chrome's plugin page and JavaScript is enabled. I have even checked always enabled. That didn't work either. In Chrome settings I have made sure JavaScript is enabled as well. As for the .xul file thing, I have no idea how I would fix that. I am fairly good with computers, but that is beyond my knowledge. If there is anything else blocking JavaScript that you know of that you don't think i've tried, let me know.

  • 4 weeks later...

I'm having this problem as well, around about the time of the latest revision (not blaming it, just dating it). For me, it has been every single mod I've tried to download through the manager as well. I've checked and javascript is indeed enabled in my browser (chrome). If you want links:

Mind you this is only a few, but for me its been every single one I've tried. I'm aware they all have manual download at top, but the "download with manager" links are the ones I'm referring to. It starts like its spooling it, but I usually get a dialog that requests to start the application. I'm not getting that, and it isn't spooling when I check the application. I've checked both the internet settings of the computer as well as of chrome and so far, I've had no luck in figuring out the cause.

The "Download with Manager" button is not working in Windows 8.1 with Chrome. It's a bug with Windows 8.1. Blurb from the programmers:

"The culprit is Windows 8 because it performs a certain operation in a non-standard way...so Chrome, in order to tighten security, doesn't allow some of the registered protocols because Windows 8 doesn't register them properly"

It will work in IE and Fire Fox, just not Chrome.

Well, you nailed my OS and my browser... but shouldn't it have occurred the entire time if that was the case? What I mean is I upgraded this computer in March, but the inability to use the download manager through the website has actually only been in the last couple weeks. Before then, it was working perfectly. Did something change in Chrome since then?
