Mod manager download or manual installation?

I just started modding a few days ago, so I dont know much. My question is, how do I know if I should choose a "manual installation" download or a "mod manager download". To put my question into context, I use Skyrim Mod Organizer instead of Nexus Mod Manager, and the first mod Im gonna install is "Ruins Clutter Improved" but when I go to the mod page there are 2 main files, the manual installer and the NMM installer. The problem is that both files have a "download with manager" link which means even the manual installer can be downloaded to my Skyrim Mod Combiner. So what would be the difference then? and if I actually can't install the manual installer with the mod manager then why do so many mod creators put "download with manager" links under their manual installation files?

You Can still manually download just ignore the download with manger link and click name of the file (i believe) and it will bring up the server list so you can download, as for the difference it just sends the download request to your Mod Manager instead of you having to do the nasty work of choosing the sever and and telling it you want to save to drive then using File Open in Mod Orginizer before you can activate/install.

I think that it is best to take the manual download path if you are not using the NMM. There are two reasons for this: 1) the NMM version of the download will have extrenious files which you don't really want making their way into your game/ data folder. 2) if you are going to give modding a shot, then it will be helpfull to get familliar with the layout of your data folder. Most manual install files come with a .txt file explaining how and where to stick the mod files. There are also good tutorials on the wiki about how to install mods either manually like I do, or using the NMM.

If Skyrim Mod Organizer doesn't have an install function you will have to install manually or use the NMM. If you would like to eventually MAKE mods, then I suggest manual installation. If you just want to use other peoples mods then get the NMM, or use the Mod Organizer. if you are having trouble using MO, their WIKI is http://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Mod_Organizer .

Thank you for this info I am super new to this whole mod thing and it was actually my 12 year old that got me started, he was watching youtube with his friends on skyrim game stuff and got excited and wanted to add some cool items to his profile and there are some really cool things I saw as well (I'm a big kid when it comes to gaming lol I get it from my grams) and I wanted to download a few of these mods for my pc game so I installed nmm and it isn't recognizing my skyrim data folder to be there probably because my computer is so old and slow lol (we are getting new one soon) so I was interested in manually downloading the mods but wasn't sure how to do this. My son said his friend has the nmm and he just downloads using it and it is really easy. I am not computer iliterate but I'm no computer wiz either. working on learning more it is very interesting to me and I am always will to learn and am very patient. if you have any suggestions that would help me further along it would be appreciated greatly!! Thanks again!
