Mod Patching and Optional Files Help

KillerUnleashed

Recommended Posts

So I'm new to modding and I love it but I'm just realizing mistakes I made with patching, overwriting, and optional files. I realized this when trouble shooting yesterday with missing masterfiles and stuff like that because of overwriting. The thing is certain mods are supposed to be overwritten but its kinda hard to know when its not stated on a mod if a patch or optional file is stand alone or supposed to overwrite.

I'm curious if there is someone here that could help me if I post a screen cap of my mod organizer window... or if there is an easier way maybe export a txt file of all my mods?

Weeell the easiest way would be posting your BOSS log here and putting it in a spoiler tag. I trust you use BOSS? That will probably already solve some of your problems.

If you're talking about retextures etc., I would recommend just installing them in the order you want to. For example, if one mod covers landscapes and another has particular landscapes textures you like more, install the latter last. But I reckon I'm not telling you anything new here.

Well for a BOSS log I have this. It seems to all be running good. I had some issues with SMIM mesh patches people saying your supposed to overwrite them but when doing so it'd mess up the whole SMIM mod. So i'm going without them and not noticing any problems. Also yeah over 120 mods is a lot XD but they game runs smooth so no complaints and nothing seems to be conflicting.

Sorry had to edit a bunch cause I couldn't figure out the spoiler code hahaha n000000b! XD

It's alright :)
Well, I'd first take a look at your warnings. You should clean those mods that BOSS complains about, except for where it's stated to not clean them. Also... I have to say I'm slightly confused about some of the warnings, because I have some mods you also have, but BOSS never told me you need SKSE for it (SkyUI for instance). I mean, surely you do need SKSE, but it surprises me that BOSS tells you that. Do you not have SKSE installed?

Same for Enhanced Blood Textures saying you need version 1.9+ for it. Is your current version of Skyrim below that?

Anyways... yes, those are quite a bunch of patches. You should probably move your unrecognised patches below those esps that are patched by it, and also put the other unrecognised ones somewhere else; it doesn't necessarily make trouble if they're at the end of your load order, but it seems - for me - that Pure Waters sometimes isn't quite happy with not being at the end of the load order, except for the patches for it of course.

For Headbomb's Better Sorting, I'd say you can safely install the patches BOSS links to you. You should overwrite the old Better Sorting esps with Sharlikran's ones.

For the others, the Audio Overhaul patches for example, I can't exactly help you because I don't use them. I'd just say install your mods in the correct order and take a close look at what is being overwritten. For textures this is most of the time rather easy, as I already briefly explained above, and it's usually not much more than that. Just use common sense. if you're installing a patch for something, then of course don't overwrite the main file, etc.

Sorry for not being very helpful.

Very top of the Boss Log....

* Warning: You have installed Skyrim Community Uncapper but SKSE not found! See SKSE download page: "http://skse.silverlock.org/".

Follow the link get SKSE...Think that is why Boss keeps complaining in the rest of the Log....IF you did install SKSE it is not working....

============================================================================================================

My BOSS tells me it finds it, and gives the version.>> Note: Your SKSE is up-to-date.......SKSE Version: 0.1.7.0<<skse plugins page

Edit- What version of Skyrim are you using?

I redid SKSE and it seems to not be complaining about it but when I went to install it, it said my skyrim was 0.1.6.0 or something... I have no idea how that could be cause it runs through steam so its all patched up... could it be miss reading for one of the unofficial patches?

I stuck with Lanterns Of Skyrim - All In One - Climates of Tamriel - default.esp cause I'm guessing thats just one of the default settings for brightness/nights or something.
