Hello chaps! I dunno if anyone out there could help me, but I recently re-installed Fallout 3 GOTY edition on steam. My OS is windows 8.1 so I knew there would be some problems, but I managed to get it running fine.

Of course, what is Fallout without mods? So I got to downloading and installing a fair few, mainly those that I remembered were good from the last time I played it.

It went well, had good fun, yadda yadda yadda, until I got the super-duper mart. I'm a regular quicksaver (like every ten minutes or so) and before attacking the raiders outside I hit F5. Only for my game to crash. Tried again, didn't work. I managed to enter the building fine though, and quicksave worked within it fine too. When I got out, I went to see if the Personal Vault mod worked (it's located on the road next to the old carpark) and when I tried to enter my game froze. O've tried this a good few times.

If I have issues, I try to disable mods en bloc or seperately and then retry the step leading to the ctd. If you can run your game and save with the mentioned mod deactivated, you have your culprit.

You suppose the vaultmod crashing your game, then deactivate it and reload without. To be 100% safe, save indoors (in the mart or in Megaton) not in the cell you suppose to be the source of your problems. Now go outside and try to save in regions your game previously crashed. Post your findings then.

Edit: Not that I ignore the fact that the vaultmod already crashes your game, I also would want to rule out that the surroundings of the Super-Duper Mart are buggy in some way. I.e. modded raiders or critters.

It does not appear that LOOT did a very good job of sorting your load order.  The Apocalypse Armory mods should be grouped together.  Logic would dictate that you don't need two EWE load order fixes.

I would try to disable the UCO mod, I had quite a few crashes with it enabled as it modifies raider camps and puts a truckload of additional raiders in several camps including super duper mart, which can lead to the game engine having to load too many actors and AI and thus to CTD.  Well in my game it did anyway, so try that and report back

Update!

So I took your advice and went through each of my mods, activating them one at a time. I deleted UCO because I only really got that on a whim, and now it quicksaves fine. Only problem seems to be that when entering buildings it might just stay at a black loading screen with radio and ambient sounds in the background OR it'll load, and I can play for about 5-10 seconds before it freezes.

So far it's only done that in the Personal Vault, I'll check with other places and get back to you!

Second update!

Okidokes, so now it's working... ish. I created a new character and now I can save fine, but it still freezes occasionally in the personal vault itself. Usually after ~5 minutes in there. Aside from that, no problems!

Good to hear. If the freezing only takes places in the vault it is still an issue, maybe ask around in the author's thread. In a rare case that could be due to faulty hardware - I once had problems with the Underground Hideout and faulty shaders on a graphics card. But that would be too much "assuming" and not enough testing. By looking at your modlist I can't see any "intense" mod that would challenge your hardware, even UCO didn't kill my rig which is like 100 years old or so.

The next level would be to fire up the FO3edit, learn the ropes and make a compatibility patch yourself. At least you would be sure what is conflicting with what. Just a hint. Have fun in the capital wasteland and send my greetings to Carol.
