silverdropone
I have spent the last week carefully learning how to install mods for skyrim and choosing which mods I want. I use Mod Organizer and I've been generally happy. However, I keep getting a CTD shortly after killing the first dragon and wandering around outside of Whiterun. I have completely reinstalled mods several times (both by making new profiles and by reinstalling some mods). I am using BOSS, cleaing with TES5edit, and even using BUM to set the order for some trickier mods. On two separate profiles now, I CTD at roughly the same spot. I use Hunting in Skyrim. I am on the quest to go find the Giant Mudcrabs (the first quest of the guild). After passing Fort Greymoor and heading west towards Sleeping Tree Camp, I run into CTDs. I thought it might be caused by a skeleton that summons a headless knight, but even after avoiding that area, I still crashed shortly afterwards. I do not know how to uninstall a mod though -- it seems that whenever I try, when I go to run the game, it tells me that something has changed and the game either won't load or it CTDs. What is the safe way to keep a save and uninstall a mod to check if it is the cause? I don't think it's a problem with my system, as the game runs great, looks gorgeous and has no fps drop. I guess it is a mod, but I'm sad because I like all the mods I have chosen. Any help would be really, really appreciated! steelfeathers
Your mod list is so long, and with so many giant mods, it could be literally anything. My advice would be to download and use the nexus mod manager to manage your mods. Easy install, easy uninstall. I have about 200+ mods myself, and I've found that the best way to trouble-shoot CTD's is to install one mod at a time, test it, then install another. If you get a crash, it's likely a conflict with the mod you just installed. Also...before downloading and installing, read the mod post. All of it. AND the comments left by users. That will usually give you a good idea of whether a mod is known for causing issues and what it conflicts with.
silverdropone
I've read the mod posts compatibility for all of the mods I've installed, as well as the user comments to check issues people have. I know there are people with longer lists than mine that are successfully playing the game.As for NMM, I was under the impression that Mod Organizer was better than NMM in because it leaves the Skyrim folder pristine. The main game changing mods I would like to use are:Skyrim RedoneForgotten Magic RedoneHunting in SkyrimComplete Crafting OverhaulLocational DamageHelgen RebornScoped BowsTK Hitstop 2 Follower mods: HothInigoAs well as Amazing Follower Tweaks There are a few lesser ones I like the idea of : Staves of SkyrimSmartCastBetter VampiresWerewolve Mastery The rest are visuals or small tweaks, such as inconsequential NPCs, immersive patrols, gildegreen reborn, etc. Is there anything very obviously conflicting with what I have listed here? ripple
Try uninstalling SkyTest, then rebuild your dynamically generated compatibility patches (AV patch, Bashed Patch, ReProccer).
silverdropone
So, that would mean I have to get rid of SkyTest permanently? Are there any other mods that change animal AI that might work with my list?
ripple
It means you uninstall SkyTest to test and see if it's the mod that is causing the instability you are experiencing. If it's not, you can always reinstall it.
