Archery, fired arrows collide with invisible rock edges?

Hey all. I've noticed something since my very first Skyrim days when I started playing. I'm sure it's been brought up before, but I can't really find anything on the subject, and I was hoping that someone on the forums would be able to give me a quick answer as to why this is happening, and if there is a mod or tweak I can make that will correct this issue...

The problem occurs whenever I am attempting to take someone out from a top a rock, or any type of ledge. I'll be in first person view, and my crosshair is definitely clearing the rocks/ledge, and very much so. But unless I'm on the very VERY edge, literally to the point where I'm starting to sink and slide down the rock face, my arrows will collide with what I'm assuming is an invisible, ummm, mesh? I guess? I don't know the technical terms, but I'm sure it has something to do with collision detection.

It just gets extremely annoying whenever I line up perfect shots on bandits and draugr deathlords, and I release the arrow, just to have the arrow bounce back at me after hitting an invisible portion of the rock or ledge. Even worse when they hear the sound it makes, which causes them to search for me and I get spotted. Because 9 times out of 10, I've had to scoot up so far on the rock or ledge that I'm starting to slide off and I can't easily scoot back to hide...

I don't mean to be a pain in the rear, to those that might get upset at me for asking what is in their eyes such a dumb question. I'm just hoping maybe someone might be able to give me a clue as to what exactly is going on and if there is any means to fix it...

Thanks guys.

i think your attemp with the meshes was quite good. i'm no expert myself, but i know, that first a geometrical shape is made, to which the textures are added. the meshes. and it may be, that bethesda didn't pay that much attention to whether the textures match the meshes or not in some parts. or it's just part of the game mechanic, that your look in first person is a slightly different perspective in reality (VIRTUAL reality. i have friends and i know what real reality is!).
you could try out some mods, that alter the meshes and textures of cliffs, rocks and mountains and maybe this will solve the problem. don't know. try around a bit. be snoopy ;D

As textures are applied to the mesh if they did not match it would simply look bad. I am not sure what is causing the problem but I am fairly sure it is not the meshes.

Have you ever noticed the sometimes you hit an npc and the arrow is actually floating there? I would say this is the same basic problem.

yeah, you're right. didn't thought this one through. then a streching of the textures would occur (which we definitely have in the game!). but this can't be the problem.

i just can reference to the theory of relativity at this point.
