Projectile modding help needed.

So I've been trying to make a couple weapon mods but my projectiles aren't working the way they should. First off I've been trying to make a sort of artillery beacon using grenades. The idea is to throw a beacon and spawn a single artillery strike on that position, and they work... sort of. They call an artillery strike, but only if there is either a living or dead person/creature near the beacon and the strike hits the person/creature instead of the beacon itself. If nothing is nearby the beacon just vanishes.

 

Secondly I'm trying to mod the GRA hive missile to make it a sort of MIRV where instead of shooting little missiles out of it it just drops bomblets along the fire path. However every attempt just leads to another hive missile of a different name.

 

Any help would be appreciated.

Are you using a custom created artillery strike form, or are you using the one from the Boomers? IIRC the Boomers one was scripted to strike at NPCs walking through the area, so it makes sense it would go to them. I have no clue how it works, but if I had to guess I'd say the artillery strike creates an explosion that adds an effect to a nearby actor that then targets them as the strike.

 

The missile thing is a bit more complex. You might be interested in The Talkie Toaster's Playing with Firepower mod, which adds in a variety of scripted projectiles, including a cluster bomb that flies as a normal missile until you release the bombs. It's heavily scripted though, and probably not exactly what you're looking for. What you want to do is maybe not possible.

 

Also, technically it can't be an MIRV, since that acronym stands for Multiple Independently Targeted Reentry Vehicle, and this is neither targeted nor re-entering. It just sounds cool :)

Thanks Gribble, I'm using the boomers one that's already listed in the explosions section, sadly I don't know how to make a custom artillery strike. That explanation makes sense as to why it's not an on target hit, hadn't thought of checking the scripts for that. I'm not very script savvy, the one mod I made was just very simple scripting.

As for the missile I was hoping to find a way to replace the hives mini missile spawner with a sort of grenade spawner. Then I could just make an on impact explosion grenade and have the missile drop them along the way. However I'm not sure where to find this spawning ability. I looked in the scripts and didn't find anything, unless I overlooked it. Always wondered what MIRV stood for, I got the idea from a game called Iron Brigade. They had something similar except the missile was more of a big canister that flew in an arc, they also called the ability MIRV.
