The Auld Grump
Since the turn of the year I have been working in the background on what you could essentially call "Nexus v2.0", doing a complete rework of the code on the site and addressing many fundamental issues that have arisen over the years.
As I have to deal with many aspects of running the Nexus Sites, not just the coding aspect of it, I like to consider myself as a jack of all trades, master of none. That is to say I know enough to get along in accounting, advertising, server architecture and maintenance, Photoshop, HTML, Javascript, MySQL, PHP, CSS and all the other things I need to know to run the sites but I haven't mastered any one thing. With this in mind much of the core code of the site was written very hastely back in September of 2007 when TESSource became TESNexus and in those two and a half years I've picked up new coding techniques along the way that can be utilised by the site. That's what my latest work has been focused on, and it's been 2 months in the making so far and counting.
The change log for the update continues to grow in size but some of the largest and most fundamental changes to the site are ones that will largely go unnoticed. Security tweaks, bug fixes and performance optimisations being top priority that will hopefully speed up the site. More noticeable changes include the forums being upgraded to the latest version from 2.x to 3.x, so a big leap in visuals and functionality that will take some getting used to. The file tracking centre has been completely reworked from the ground-up to be more intuitive and hopefully help users get the information they actually want without too much bloat (including an RSS feed for individual files). The file search has been updated with new options to only search for files with images, with readmes and for adult-only files. The total number of private messages normal members can store will be doubled to 100 from 50 (Premium Members will continue to have 500) and of course, there's much more than that.
All these changes pave the way for a lot of cool things I have planned to add to and improve the site through 2010, some of which I mentioned in a news post and some of which have been inspired by the great feedback offered (over 300 comments!) by the community. Rest assured I have read all the posts left by users in that thread and they haven't fallen on deaf ears.
Nexus v2.0 will be coming soon .

Is there a reason why the site is down right now?
Hi, not sure if anyone else is having this problem, or if it is just me. I can't get on nexusmods. I am guessing the site is down?
I am unable to access the nexusmods website as well. There are a few others stating the same on twitter. Haven't seen a response from nexusmods yet.
