Game freezes at birth scene but the sound keeps going

Whenever I start a new game the game freezes after the character is born. It doesn't freeze freeze, like the screen not moving, it's just the dad, mom, and doctor Li who stop moving. At the beginning of the birth scene, the character is born then I choose whether to be a boy or girl, after that part the dad says: "it's a boy!" and then the mom says: "oh great" but then once the mom finishes her sentence the dad doesn't say anything or move the tv screen that is used to choose your character's looks. The dad just stands there and doctor Li is gone.

 

I installed the FOMM and FOSE. I tried playing the game with all of the DLC's checked in FOMM, it didn't work. Then I tried playing with just Fallout3 checked in FOMM and the other DLC unchecked, that didn't work. Then I tried just playing the .exe in the Fallout3 directory but that didn't work either.

 

How can I fix this problem? Please help.

Is your game patched with the Official 1.7 ?

Have you "Archive Invalidated" (if you're running mods).

It could be a couple of things - have you tried re-installing - I'm just taking a shot here ?

I have the Archive-Invalidation-Invalidated installed and activated. I also patched the game with the 1.7 patch. This is the third time re-installing the game. The first time it worked, but as i progressed through the game it started crashing after i fast traveled. I looked up the fix for it and i was told to start a new game. So i did but the birth scene started to pause and i can't start a new game.

When that happened to me, the only thing that worked for me was tuning up the settings in the default launcher. it didn't seem to matter that I had let it decide the settings for itself. after I upped the settings a bit in the "Advanced..." button I was able to play the game.

Really? Now that I think about it, when I started the game for the first time the default settings were on high, but then when i left the vault i had to lower them because the game crashed. I'll try raising the graphics. Thanks for help.

Settings: didn't seem to affect the birth lockup

 

I couldn't say exact what it was that worked but in the advanced options all boxes are checkmarked, all the dropdown lists are set to "high" & all sliders are roughly in the middle in all the tabs. though if you use an older system that may be to much for it to handle well.

I know you guys commented back in 2010 but this actually solved the issue I was having now in 2014. I made an account just to thank you!! I was getting stuck after selecting the gender at the birthing scene but turning all the graphics up and doing what you did completely solved the problem. Took two days of searching to come across this fix!!
