Armor skill increase problem

Hello, I'm using this mod http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/44795/? to prevent any armor/weapons from breaking so they don't take any damage at all.

The only reason I'm using this is because NPCs cannot repair their gear at all. I've tried to look for mods that got NPCs to repair but there wasn't any.

 

The only problem with this mod is that my armor skills cannot increase.

Is there any way to make armor skills go up but still take no damage?

 

What about a script that constantly renews durability of ALL ACTORS' gear, so technically armors and weapons still take damage but they just get renewed?

 

There is a mod called enchantment restore that does the same thing for enchantments maybe a clone of that mod but for durability could be a good idea? :blush:

Notes: I use original Oblivion + Shivering Isles + 1.2 Patch + Unofficial Patches + OOO + MOO + Severeal other petty mods, if that helps ;)

That's a good find: heavy/light armor skill increases upon armor degradation. The easiest way, I should think, would be to find out how to not make this apply to the player character. I'll have a look at this mod to see if anything can be altered. I could use it myself.

So here's a work-around that I think you'd be happy with. Instead of the armour and weapons be unbreakable, just have them receive so little damage that they'd only scratch after a million years. Gain experience fine.

 

But, still, it'd be better to still have the player armor break faster. You'll never upgrade you're armourer skill w/o training.

The only reason why I am "disabling" durability is because NPCs do not have access to them whatsoever.

 

But what about a script that regenerates durability? As I mentioned before the clone of the Enchantment Restore mod adjusted for durability?

I think this is the best idea ;)

I personally wouldn't know how to make a script like that. You can try messaging the author, via the forum -- not nexus -- profile.

 

I do have a mod the allows you to have your followers' armor never break. And it's not that their armor doesnt ever degrade; it get's repaired instantly. So that's something like regeneration.

 

I wouldn't know how to make this affect all NPCs in the same cell as the player, but I think it wouldn't be too hard to make if someone knew script language better than me.

 

My only concern would be if performance suffers from running the script.

Well, as I said, there is already a mod for regenerating enchantming applying to all actors :)

 

Maybe the same thing just replacing the enchantment part with durability? :blush:

I get what you are saying. It's just replacing enchanting with durability isn't simple to do to my knowledge. I'm pretty sure most of the script would have to be rewritten.

 

Hopefully someone can help you on this. You might want to try the "Mod Troubleshooting" section.

Right now I'm talking with a modder who made an "auto-repair" ring just for the player. He said it is possible to do it as a constant effect for all actors ;)
