Hey guys,

How's it going? Karthaingo here, and I'm trying to make a mod but I'm still pretty bad at it. The first one I made (Guard Power, which was intended to make the guards have better and matching gear) didn't work, so I figured I'd try something simpler to see if I couldn't get that to work.

What I'm trying to do, is make it so I create a custom list of spells within the Magic section, and move spells from one of the other categories and put it in there instead. But to be perfectly honest, I'm not even sure where to start to do something like this.

I figured it'd be pretty handy for all of those custom spells you get from other mods like Amazing Followers Tweaks or WARZONES: Civil Unrest; that way you could just drag them over to this particular section and have them all there so when you go looking for a certain one, you don't have to remember if Call God of Warzones was in Conjuration or Destruction.

Any tips on where to start looking? Or is this a project that will likely be too hard for a new mod maker?

I think I understand what you're saying. But, while you can use the quest filter to place quests in their own category, items/magic need to have a model in the same folder. Here's a better explanation of what I mean.

If I'm not understanding what you were asking, feel free to correct me.

I think this is what I'm aiming for Matthiaswagg, but to be honest I don't really know. It did clear up some other question though that might have been why my other mod didn't work. I didn't think about the guards equipment being hard coded, but I'm still not sure how to check it though.

But, back on the mod in question: What I'm trying to do is just add a section to the Magic List, like Destruction, Restoration, Conjuration, etc. The Naming Convention would have something to do with that? I'm still pretty new to the whole mod creation thing; like I only just got the CK a couple of days ago.

im not 100% sure but i think it would be 10 times easier to let a guard dance and sing songs then doing what you want to do with the menu^^

as yu can see in the creation kit, all the spell categorys are set in the game code. So you cant just make a new "mod spell" category. The best you could hope for would be something like a SkyUI pluging/mod? i dont eben know...

You could make a "patch" to edit all the spells that come with different mods to 1. be powers 2. all have a prefix like "MODS_" and so on. This way they would all sort in the power category in an alhaetical order.

But to be honest, that should not be needed as every mod author yould do this for his mod. And if he isnt tell him too^^ ... lazy F*****

I must not understand what you are talking about hecause to me this sounds exactly like the favorites menu? I mean that's basically what it is as far as I can tell -- an uncategorized spell menu.

In any event, you'll need to know some Flash and some XML to edit the UI, I believe. Is that in your wheelhouse?

He's talking bout in the CK. It's kind of hard coded, but if the spell/item uses a mesh inside a new folder I.e meshes/mymod, then it will be under the category mymod. It's a lot easier with quests, but not on a large scale.

I don't think he is talking about the CK because he says he doesn't want to remember if a mod's spells are in conjuration or destruction. Spells aren't grouped by school in the CK. Plus I don't think he is talking about editing other mods, he seems to be talking about playing other mods.

But I suppose some clarification is in order

I thought I knew what he was talking about, but reading through it I don't really anymore. Either it would be pretty hard. Still, if the OP could clarify that would be nice.

Nah, you guys understand what I mean for the most part; I was trying to basically make an uncategorized list within the Magic menu for custom spells that were put in by other mod authors. I wasn't even sure where to begin to try to make something like that though, so I was kind of hoping that if I elaborated that someone could point me in the right direction of where to look to get started.

What I meant by not being able to remember where the spells are, lofgren, is that when I'm digging for those custom spells to control things like FNIS, I often forget what spell category those spells are in. So my goal here was to make a section special for those spells, and remove them from the category they were dropped in initially. But as Matthias and mastabenja pointed out, the lists of spells are hard coded so it'll be harder, if not impossible, to work around it. =-/

Definitely not talking about editing someone else's mod; I'm a firm believer in letting someone else's work alone unless otherwise given permission.

Ah. I completely misunderstood your first post. But this would be very, very difficult, and I don't have the knowledge to achieve it.
