Crash upon Carriage Ride

Hoping someone can help me with this: is the process by which you travel by carriage in Better Fast Travel at all different from the process by which you fast travel?

I ask because currently, I am periodically getting CTDs when I go by carriage to Riften, but not when I fast travel to the stables, enter the area by foot, or by the Riften City Gate. Originally I thought the issue was due to a massive spawn I got outside the city, which solved the problem for a few hours.

Then it happened again, and I thought it was due to autosave upon travel, so I disabled that, which again worked for a few hours. Now I've just travelled to Riften from Whiterun, and again, CTD. Earlier in that save, I'd travelled from Windhelm to Riften, which had worked perfectly. Upon the save reverting to before that journey, now taking the journey causes a CTD.

Reinstalling the mod let me travel from Whiterun to Riften once, but then trying it again caused another CTD

I also experienced this when travelling by carriage to Falkreath. Again, I don't get this with Fast Travel.

I'm using the memory patch, have cleaned my masters, and if Carriages/Fast Travel are the same process, I suspect Better Fast Travel is somehow involved, which is a shame, because I really liked that mod...
