Good Mods?

After playing Oblivion and Fallout, I know that the default games tend to blow, and with only a couple mods it is practically a different game.

Any good non adult mods that you think are essential? Im picking up a copy of the game tomorrow.

Thanks :)

for starters :whistling: i will recommend you my favorite mods that i use and i feel that they are essential in my game you can try Qwinn's Unofficial DA:O Fixpack http://social.bioware.com/project/2563/this mod is a little fix to counter those pesky bugs in DA that bioware ignored for almost a year now yeah an "year" can you believe that  5 more months and counting for the mark wtf ,and they are still working on the official patch 1.04 roflmao

next would be Dragon Age Redesigned by Dracomieshttp://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=686 this mod is basicly an overhaul of the npc's,companions texture ect. in your game

my 3rd would be Winter Forge http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=122 this mod allows you to customize in game weapons , armors even runes ,glowing weapons & Arms special effects fire/ice/spirit , change material grade.

http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=181Advanced Tactics 3.0 this mod give extra slot on you tactics screen for your AI just be careful when using this mod as it is known to bring new bugs such as invisible walls and objects appearing in-game, good thing there is a fix http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=852AT fix 3.0

http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=664extra dog slot this mod gives you the option to make dog your 5th traveling companion in game.

http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=971chargen morph compiler - compiles all your texture mods into 1 like pineapple vibrant, hair styles,CC extra tints into 1 compatible file This application automates the process by comparing the missing values across any chargenmorphcfg.xml files it finds in the override directories and reconstructing a singular "master" xml file containing all the values.

http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=286DAModder - Premiere DA Mod Manager for easy installing Dazip files and allows you to do a quick install/uninstall with your different mod of choice.

as for weapons/armor/game tweak/hair/eye/body/tattoo/scar and other mods there are a lot of them out there so just browse around and you'l find some great stuff...

just a quick tip before you start tweaking your game always read description before installing and don;t forget to make a back up file of your Settings folder and overide folders just incase something horrible goes wrong.

@Zealot; First, the default DA:O definitely does NOT blow. While the community mods (and "official" DLC) enhance certain aspects (or in the case of things like "Dialogue Tweaks" or "Qwinn's Fixpack", correct coding errors) the basic game plot, action, and character development is outstanding "as is".

That said, Spets' recommendations are weighted heavily toward advanced mods that let a player familiar with the basic game (probably played through at least once) make changes to enhance the things that really appeal (or overcome difficulties they really hate! http://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/laugh.gif ) Many of them (e.g. "Winter Forge", "Morph Manager", and "Mod Manager") aren't "plug-n-play", but require a certain level of understanding how the program pieces fit together to make them work.

Here's a different list, one that empasizes different kinds of changes:

[EDITED: Want to make it clear that, like Spets, I highly recommend "Qwinn's Unofficial Fixpack" as well.]

[Edited again to add the link: "Using DA Mods for Dummies", since many new posters need/want both!]

"Dialogue Tweaks" - fixes a slew of broken branches and plot flags

"Epilogue Slide Fixes" - edits the end-game slide show to more accurately reflect choices/events in the specific game just finished (corrects errors in the default set that refer to a different "past" than the player had just created)

"Improved Atmoshpere" - makes significant, sweeping improvements to the placement and behavior of the ambient populace in various locations. Adds some "non-standard" items, materials, and effects. *** USE WITH EXTREME CAUTION *** May be Is known to be incompatible with many other mods (esp. "crafting" ones) and may is also known to cause saved games to exhibit unusual behavior regarding (missing/inaccurate) equipment and/or be unable to be loaded at all if it is later removed

"Polygamey" - suppresses the automatic "It's him/her or me" conversations when romantically involved with more than one NPC.

"Equal Love" - suppresses the gender-specific restrictions on interactions, including romances.

"Practical Dalish Female Armor" - replaces the absurd default set

Various NPC facemorphs - switch them up to keep it fresh!

[Edited to add a newer Highly Recommended one. http://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/thumbsup.gif ]

"DAFaceReplacer" - lets you create the face you "meant" to, then handles all the swapping of files and settings to get that face onto your already existing PC. Also allows you to change your PC's (first) name, and includes a cheat to give you essentially unlimited inventory capacity!

One that I use that is more radical than the above "aesthetic" ones is: "Skip the Fade", which eliminates the need to mess with an entire stretch of the game that I loathe! http://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/thumbsup.gif

I'm with Thandal, you need to play the game through at least once before you start modding it. That being said, all the must have mods are already listed but I will point out that a better Skip the Fade is installed as a default choice with the latest version of Dragon Age Redesigned.

The first time through play without mods. Unlike Oblivion, this game has a well developed story and characters that make the vanilla version very good. As for mods on the second playthrough and beyond, I agree with Thandal plus I would also add the Morrigan Dialogue Restoration Patch by TerraEx. Most others are aesthetic and your use of them will be based on your preferences. There are plenty of headmorph, armor, and weapon mods out there to pick and choose from, and the Skip the Fade will be if you like playing the Fade or not. There are quite a few that actually find that their favorite part (not me, however). However, for the first time skips the mods and just enjoy the game. Lose yourself in the story. You will be surprised how good a game it is on it's own.

'Unlike Oblivion'?? Are you serious? i loved that game and i never modded it! i think this game has much more problems and issues that SHOULD have been worked out by Bioware, but were instead placed in the hands of the modding community to deal with. I only ran into one problem in Oblivion that caused a mission to be uncompletable, but even that problem i easily fixed.

No, Oblivion was a much better game than Dragon Age.

Welcome to the new world :whistling:

Sorry, I know that sounds jaded but the reality is game manufacturers no longer care about quality, they only want your money. If you want it to work right, you have to work (or at least use a modder's work.) If they get the overall package and story right they are happy, any other problems are what patches are for. The word you are searching for is complacency.

I think it's possible people are referring to (at least) two different aspects of the respective games, and then disagreeing with another's opinion of something that wasn't even said/meant.

Aspect 1: The Story/Character development and maturity/completeness of plot and dialogue.

Aspect 2: The Quality/Reliability of the Game Engine itself, and of the game code running within it.

Dragon Age, Oblivion, or any other computer game can excel at one and still be an epic fail at the other. In general, games fall somewhere closer to the middle on both.

And there is still an Aspect 3, the Quality/Beauty of the visual design and artwork that makes up "what we look at" for so many, many hours! http://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/laugh.gif

(IMO, DA is among the absolute best I've ever played for Aspect 1, (story and characters) even WITHOUT mods. But it certainly benefited from them to address certain issues with Aspect 2. In Aspect 3, it had some real winners, but The Witcher "looked" better to me.)

DAO has been referred to by quite a few people (including BioWare) as a Kitchen Sink game. I take it to mean that they cobbled it together and put it out to see what the reaction would be. With the advent of DA2 a lot more work has gone into it, the world space is huge apparently and they have recreated the fighting and magic systems.

I would hope that at some point they will return to DAO and redo certain aspects of the game and re-release it. Who knows maybe wishes will come true.
