I'll try to be as specific as I can with this issue.

So I had downloaded a host of mods way before I had considered adding a follower mod, enabling me to recruit multiple followers rather than just one human follower. Funny thing though, was that I somehow managed to get two people to follow me, one from the Interesting NPC's mod (Gorr, from Riverwood) and the vanilla NPC Uthgerd the Unbroken (in Whiterun). Initially I recruited Uthgerd after Gorr just disappeared, presumably dead. After a long while of playing with Uthgerd I had stumbled upon Gorr once more when I first went into Windhelm, to which i was left without him once more once I had gotten out of Windhelm, not dead I suppose. Soon enough, as more time passed I came across another NPC follower, from the NPC follower list named Rumarin, who wouldn't follow me because he would be a 'third wheel' (more like a fourth wheel in this case). At that point I wanted to add him as well, so I downloaded Simple Multiple Followers by kuertee on the idea that was possible. Once installed, Rumarin would STILL not follow me, third wheel and all (despite that he was following me for a certain quest he was interested in, so I managed to get 3 followers without using mods, somehow)

So in the midst of my excitement, I had fast traveled from High Throthgar back to Ivarstead (no way I was walking my fat ass back down) and Gorr once again appeared, and at this point I realized he wasn't moving, at all, so at the risk of my success of getting 3 followers one of them does not move because he technically CAN'T follow me. So I had uninstalled the Simple Multiple Followers and installed Followers Unlimited by David Brasher, which is where I reach my dilemma. Once booting up Skyrim once more, I noticed that Uthgerd and Gorr were walking away from me, not exactly with me, only Rumarin would follow. So when I decided this must be a small glitch, I decided to dimiss both Gorr and Uthgerd, which come to the spill of it all: My follower dialogue for recruting them won't show up. As a matter of fact, despite that the script implies that they have left my service, I can still trade with them, make them wait, or move them or command them somewhere. Only Rumarin actually FOLLOWS me, and technically he shouldn't since he is only following me for a quest of his. Also if I dismiss Rumarin, he still FOLLOWS me, based on the quest.

And I have tried multiple commands through here, the set player follower count, the Add Fac code, the Disable/Enable codes, the RelationshipRanks, uninstalling, restalling, even installing Awesome Follower Tweaks for some ungodly reason, nothing. I feel that I have seriously f*#@ed up my playthrough of this character and fear the inevitability of having to delete all of my mods in order to remedy the situation. If anyone has some kind of concrete answer to my current funk, without the ultimatum, that would be delightful.

You need to dismiss all your followers before installing certain follower mods. Anyways: Install http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/12933/?

This mod gives you a spell that forces any npc you are looking at to be forced into being a follower. Should fix your issue of them walking off. Honestly though, with that many followers the game is far too easy.
