Blender, DDS, and GIMP

I am new to modding, and am trying to figure out how to utilize Blender for 3D Modelling, but am having issues with getting it to work with .dds files. I have done a good amount of research on the subject, but haven't found a good answer. I downloaded the most recent version of Blender from their website, but it would appear 2.72 doesn't have a plugin folder to put the file in. Does anybody know how to use Blender 2.72 for 3D modelling for FONV? From what I understand GIMP is a "plugin for Blender", but I have no idea where to put it. Suggestions?

Eh? I think you misread a few things. GIMP is a photo editing software. in our case, it's meant to edit .dds files which are the texture files for the models (you will need the plugin to load the .dds files.). Blender is for editing the models, which are in .nif format. If you want to load .nif files into your 2.72 version of Blender, take a look at this.
