SkyEmerald
I quite confused about the Creation kit, it's probably something I'm missing. I downloaded a few modding resources, some of them are .esm or .esp but some of them are not masters or plugins and although the files are in the data folder, I cannot use them as they don't appear in the creation kit under Data select. Surely I don't need modding resources to be masters or plugins to be able to use them? Any advice will be much appreciated. :)
Hyacathusarullistad
Yes, as far as I know the CK can only open and edit .esm and .esp files. You need third party software to edit meshes (.nif), textures (.dds), and animations (.hxf? Not positive, as I've never worked with them). What sorts of file extensions are you trying to work with? IsharaMeradin
Modding resources such as meshes (NIF files) and textures (DDS files) as well as other file types are usable by the Creation Kit. However, you do not load them as you would a ESP or ESM file. Instead, when creating or modifying records/forms that can use such assets, there will be an entry that is clearly marked and when edited it opens up a standard Windows file search box for you to locate and select the appropriate asset. Example: ArmorAddon uses the Biped Model entry to modify the NIF file associated with the armor addon form. As far as editing such files, Hyacathusarullistad is correct. You will need third party tools for that purpose.

Hi thanks for your response, this is an example of one of the files I am trying to open in the CK: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/44434/? its an aquarium. Some of the other files are Strotis ovens and some plants / grass. It's like the folder is there with lots of meshes etc. So I need another software to open these files and then save as .esp or something? :S

The types of files I'm trying to use are http://www.nexusmods...im/mods/44434/? plus other various resources like activators, new plants etc.
JasmineMcCoy
No, you need to create the corrisponding item (or duplicate an existing one) in CK and point it to use the resources you downloaded.
