Matthiaswagg's Concept Art

I would try a stencil effect with a can of spray. Try to create a symbol rather than a life like image. Had I the software mentioned above, I would show you what I mean.

Less is more. The Black Blade!

Finally tried it out, there was a lot getting in the way. My Photoshop trial also expired so I'll be forced to buy it soon, though I'm rather short on money right now and not greatly looking forward to it.

Thus, this was done in Fresh Paint. Also, you can clearly tell I'm just trying to get used to the tablet - it feels very strange right now. This time I included the notes in the picture. I may need to completely redo this in Photoshop at some point, but I think it's a good concept (really I only like the handle but...):

Last time I checked Adobe added 1 year subscription plan for Photoshop. Somewhere around 10 euro per month.

PS: If you're not going to produce textures for mods or high end arts that take 5h+ to finish, program for sketching and coloring mangas might be better and cheaper for simple concept art (not manga related).

It's not uncommon for photoshop owners to use different program for creating a sketch and then importing it to cs6.

Just got Photoshop. Here's my second attempt with the Wacom tablet, back to the familiarity of Photoshop. I'll include comments here instead of the picture this time:

Simple Shortsword:

It's handle is a lot better in shape than my others, I think. It still needs more ornamentation and I think I want the leather more leathery, rather than looking like a bunch of strings. I'm working on blade shapes - they're rather hard for me. The handle seems a little long with the blade too short, as well. The blade needs way more interesting stuff. And that line in the center of the blade will need to be improved on a bunch. Ignore the dots everywhere, I'll clean those up later. Also I realize it's rather cartoonish, it's because I did it with color and a thicker brush this time (like I said, testing the Photoshop/tablet waters).

this would actually be a cool artwork to see in a book. Considering everyone uses ink jars, it would make sense that a scribe would add some ink or watercolor illustrations. Like, say he found a magic dagger and wanted to give some visual details of it

No offense, I know it's your first attempt, but... If you know how a painting it's made, you always make the sketch before. Coloring is always the last thing. I suggest using a thin black brush. Take your time, and define the shape. Maybe you don't like the cartoony lines on your drawings, and you prefer a painting-like look. But I really recommend praticing a lot on sketching before. I personally find realistic paintings tedious to make and not much rewarding. I prefer making raw sketches of my crazy ideas

But remember that I'm an hobbyst and I never studied this stuff. If you are interested in seeing my stuff you could add me on Steam.

And my dagger here:

Yeah not the most comfortable handle
