Tamrielic Assassins - Masters of Tact & Technique - a.k.a The Blackhand of The Fatherland

I want to start this by saying I absolutely love Skyrim, I know like many others I was introduced to the series through the fifth game in the series and from that amazing jumping off point I learned more about The Elder Scrolls games and it's deep and well crafted lore.

Before I get to the point of why this topic was created I'd like to recount my experience with Skyrim and how it has inspired the creation of this topic,

~ To know where your going you must know where you've been.

My first introduction with Skyrim instantly caught hold of me and didn't let go, just the amount of things you could do and fight floored me. It might also have something to do with the fact that I hadn't played a good Rpg in quite a while as well. Unfortunately I wasn't familiar with the character creation aspects of the TES series so my first characters skills were unbalanced and much to be desired. [This was much before the Dragonborn DLC and Legendary]

I could do better, and I would. Around this time I made two major adjustments.

First in my time playing my first character after a while I had found the game too easy, it was partially due to my low difficulty setting and partially due to my hack and slash game play since I hadn't solidified my playstyle.

Second I adopted the tactics of misdirection and stealth into my playstyle it was a nice change of pace from my 'mow everthing in sight down' way of dealing with things. stealth just seemed to suit me better another deciding factor in my use of the path of shadows was an epic decapitation on my first character that not only made me rethink my approach but also left me with a paranoia of all main roads.

Which actually helped me down the road by making me form the habit staying vigilant and aware of my surroundings.

---

I started my next character in mind with only one goal to create the most efficient Assassin I could in Skyrim. Taking what I had learned in my time using my first character and my adjustments of Increasing to the highest possible difficulty available at the time (Master) while tweaking my playstyle was an effective way I improved my enjoyment of Skyrim. The skills of Alchemy,Enchanting, & Smithing kept an arsenal fine crafted and stocked in my home for any situation no longer was I caught off guard by anything. This character was a bit weaker in terms of magics I knew but Illusion,Restoration, And Alteration were the main stay of his magical abilities.

I can't actually say I was ready for any situation, once when my bounty was extremely high a guard followed me into breezehome to try to arrest me for many many crimes. As soon as I noticed him in my house I used invisibility to stay out of sight, the guy walks up stairs (which is conveniently where I kept all my weapons) and comes back down with two staffs of Fireball. Let me stop this lesson to point out I had recently become a vampire due to dawnguard stuff. Suffice to say I died a very firebally exploding death that day so you never know what Skyrim will throw at you.

Anyway, Keeping a lock on my Magic and Crafting skills weren't the only things that defined my playstyle, I've always been keen on learning the most efficient way to do things especially in Skyrim since the opposite of being efficient in this game is usually being eaten by a Dragon. :down:

There are five Youtube users who have shown great promise in the ways of cloaks and daggers each bringing an essential component to the over all theme of mastery, efficiency, and finesse.

1. SEPHxxFORxxLIFE

This video is the jumping off point that got me interested in refining my playstyle. The bow and dagger being the main stay of the assassins arsenal, accuracy and planning. Predicting your preys reaction to better react your self and keeping them dazed and off balance to goad them into making more mistakes for you to take advantage of.

A few more of his videos that you should check out are;

Skyrim: Assassin (Tutorial 2)

Skyrim: Assassin (Dragons) two elders [Great video on using your environment to your advantage]

Skyrim: Assassin (my build) [see the perks that make the main stay of your stealth and archery skills]

Skyrim: Assassin (Details) [Gives you an idea of the equipment he uses, interesting for those who like the brew their own poisons]

His methods are a great example of the fullest use of the Assassin playstyle. I'd recommend watching the walk through he has too. It shows how he handles certain situations and it's nice to see his perspective and why he does things the way he does.

I leave on the note of the first Assassin with my favorite of his videos where he shows the potential of well honed archery skill.

He was the first, he paved the way for those who wished to stay unseen and deadly.

2. NightingaleAssassin

Continuing with the theme left off in the last section, this Assassins contribution to the development of this playstyle is their complete mastery over the bow. These videos feature lessons on how to effectively snipe and curve arrow shots. Another great lesson showcased in some of the other videos is using certain shouts in conjunction with the stealthier applications a trait you'll see in most if not all of the Assassins on this list.

A few more of her videos that you should check out are;

Skyrim Assassin: Sniper Montage

Skyrim trickshots: curving your shots wanted style [show in depth how to curve your arrows]

She has less videos than most of the Assassins but that doesn't subtract from the worth within lesson you can get from them.

She was the second, A Steely eyed sniper who's mastery of the bow was unrivaled.

3. Mr.Gazgoyle

Gaz is one of the Blackhand that I feel should have gotten a lot more recognition when he was posting videos, He addresses one of the main weaknesses of the Assassin playstyle which is taking damage. As an Assassin your main objective is to stay out of sight and remove all targets from your path. He goes over some of the ways to increase the power of your equipment and the crafting of poisons, both are essential if you want to survive the any challenge that stands in your way.

A few more of his videos that you should check out are;

Skyrim Assassin. Dragons and Magic Resist

Skyrim Lets Build an Assassin Archer 10 Alchemy

Illusion Destruction and Bound Weapons

Skyrim Black Book Better Weapon Damage Enchanting and Alchemy

Skyrim Ahzidal's Armour Improved Enchanting with The Sallow Regent Black Book

Skyrim Legendary Difficulty 21 Alchemy

His methods of crafting have impacted how I go about crafting the items for my characters use, prompting me to create the most effective tools for the situation at hand I also enjoy his walk through of both Master and Legendary difficulty.

He was the Third, Concocting and Crafting deadly poisons and potent armaments to bring his foes to a stand still.

One of the most rewarding aspects of the Assassin playstyle is the challenge, be they self inflicted or taken from another having a set challenge and overcoming that obstacle is a key part of improvement and thus continued success.

Now this section doesn't really need a 'videos you should check out' section since this Youtuber is also and Let's Player, He's done several different games for the sake of this post I'd focus on the "Skyrim Assassin, The Montages, & the Challenges."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQn_Ct34ZDg

He was the Forth, Applying all he had learned and taught to better himself and the who walk the shadows.

5. TheCouchWarrior

Last but certainly not least, The Couch Warrior provides us with an unique combination of Let's Play and Machinima weaving a tale while at the same time teaching the skills required to master the trade of dealing death his, death mentor series is a great guide showcasing many of the things discussed here and by other Assassins.

He was the Fifth, A True Son of Sithis

So this topic is far from done I just want to post the first part to spark some conversation and interest.

The next part of this post will deal more with Poisons and Enchantments that should be focused on for those who are interested in this type of playstyle.

[For some reason the site won't embed the last six videos so I just left the links, let me know if you know of a way to fix this]
