Tougher NCR Troopers

Hey, what's up, first time creating a thread on the forums here so bear with me. My request is a simple concept yet probably much more complicated internally. As i play through the game one thing has become clear, the NCR trooper is the weakest creature in the wastes. The standard Troopers I've encounter throughout my travels utilize terrible weapons even at high levels (I.E Single Shotguns at level 50), terrible health values, and all around s*** SPECIAL stats. Just today, i watched as a Viper killed a single trooper armed with a service rifle, with a tire iron. i understand the concept, that the regular troopers are just everyday citizens put in some shabby body armor and shipped out with guns, but when it gets to the point where you watch 1 legion recruit kill an entire patrol with a machete gladius, there needs to be a change made. Now to be fair i did install CNR (Caesar's new regime) for this play-through, but even then i got the NCR Rearmament mod to even out the playing field. let's just say things may be worse.

My mod request isn't something that will totally change the NCR trooper (for compatability purposes) but would rather make small changes to SPECIAL stats and give them a proficiency boost. Anything that would make them seem less pathetic, while still being compatible with any of the big overhauls out there. Probably much harder than it sounds, but i still wanna hear your perspectives. i think that milieniums mod pack adds his weapons to the NCR arsenal. if it doesnt you should post a request for that. he's got some really nice weapons that would beef up the NCR.

thanks for the feedback, but i installed weapons of the new millenia and it did all of nothing for the NCR. Really all i want is for the average trooper to, at least, be up to level with the average legion recruit. early game the legion/NCR dynamic is very well done. The NCR being frail but with good firepower, and the legion being buff with almost no firepower. late game legionnaires get 12mm SMGs, .44 Revolvers, Marksman carbines, 10mm SMGs and 9mm SMGs. The best the average trooper can get is a 9mm SMG, not to mention that the veteran legionairs found mid game are level 10 while NCR troopers are level 5 all throughout the game. There has to be some way to bolster their defenses to stand up to the legion on the roads. it's pathetic.

a way i did it was i increased the armor stats on all NCR armor by 33% across the board and switched the single shotgun out with the assault carbine. i felt it was stupid that they would send troops in with the weakest shot gun in the game. though i also increased the single shotguns damage to balance out the powder gangers. i even had a buddy i know help me set it up so NCR soldiers spawned with new armor and never worn out armor.

 

all together they kinda became walking tanks that if in a group killed anything and everything that moved, short of a deathclaw. only because i have yet to see them fight a deathclaw. have you ever noticed that not once in the game do deathclaws and NCR soldiers cross paths in the vanilla game? it's really weird.

Nexus already has a mod that boosts the armors and another one that redistribute the weapons they can spawn with... but it would be nice if someone could make those two into 1 balanced mod. Boost the DT, reduce the weight, maybe even give a small gun bonus... add a few more powerful weapons and thats it... just status for compatibility purposes.

I loaded Expanded NCR tactical armor to check this and stood by and watched the Legion-NCR encounter north of Wolfhorn Ranch (where the NCR patrol are routinely mullered by a bunch of nutters in skirts) and the NCR in the ADUC T-Shirts [DT 5. Melee +2 Guns +2] and Tactical vests [DT 4] actually won. Just a shame they were promptly swarmed by about 15 Nightstalkers - but they are definitely tougher in the HDT gear.
