Creating new structures with Hearthfire

My current project will be using some resources and tech from Skyrim's expansions, such as Hearthfire's house building tech.

 

However, I'm not yet sure what the best way is to make a new structure which uses the construction tech, without it being a carbon copy of the existing Hearthfire houses, or modifying the Hearthfire houses themselves.

 

I'm trying to set up a location tied to the story of the main mod I'm working on, where a group the Dragonborn can join will be setting up a base that they can help build. I'd much rather use the tech Hearthfire has so that the player can actually feel like they're helping build the base, as opposed to having it pop up while they're away using quest point triggers.

 

Is this kind of thing possible, and how could this be accomplished? (I already have the fix for loading Skyrim's expansion files with the Creation Kit, so at least there's that out of the way.)

What you're talking about does take some scripting, however if you're familiar with scripting at all it should be fairly simple.

Thank you very much. I think I'll do some practice mods first (even if they're nothing good enough to be released) first before getting to work on what I really want to use this for.
