Morrowind slight lag in Balmora w/ MGSO

I've put up with this since I installed it and honestly, it's not a problem. I use MGSO and have the "Balmora Trees" checked. Obviously, I knew this would have a performance hit since in the MGSO
installer, Balmora Trees was marked in red, meaning high performance hit. In addition to Morrowind being the only ES game to have "open" cities, this is what I blame the lag on. I am always at 120fps
and in Balmora it drops to around 75fps-100fps at times, little spikes here and there but easy to overlook and zero crashes. Am I right in coming to the conclusion that the openness of Balmora in addition
to having this mod turned on is responsible for the lag? And that the openness with view distance modifiers all the way up? Really, I'm just being picky. But, will over-clocking my graphics card do anything?

75 fps with MGSO high settings is pretty good actually, IMO. Morrowind is an old game pre-multicore and all those. So it doesn't take advantages of modern hardware. Also it more leans towards CPU power than GPU. So having more power per core is better and improves performance.

Also, you might want to limit your FPS using MGE to , say 60. The more fps means more scripts the game has to process per second and also *might* cause slowdowns in places where there are more NPCs, creatures like Balmora or Sadrith Mora.

Thanks for your reply. I'll try limiting my fps, I'm assuming it'll be in MGSO options? Or, will I have to root around in the directory for Morrowind.ini ? :pirate:

Yep. Morrowind.ini

[General] section (near the top)

Max FPS = 240

Change that to 60
