Awakening ERF's

which method are you using to open them up? You have to set the toolset up to be the default program to open them.

Easiest way I can think of to do that, is to go into an erf file, then EXTRACT one of the .uti files. Then after extracting it, browse to where it is on your computer, and right click on it. Choose Open With then make sure that the check box for always use this program is ticked. Browse to your installation directory for where the toolset is installed- typically c:/program files/dragon age/tools/

and double click dragonagetoolset.exe

After you've done that, you can right click on a .uti file in the toolset and choose the open option.

should work fine, anything that's DLC material comes with basic encryption and would require you to decrypt it for actual use basic toolset recognition (gda + actual resources to see mesh variations, supported custom/additional stat variables etc), thankfully awakening is a breeze to plunder through

however if by "opening .UTI with toolset" you mean essentially plugging in/direct port into toolset with item names, stats, etc - im afraid those have to be recreated by hand, or, injected into the dragon age sql database which from where i left off - is nearly impossible, there is a way to alter/edit ldf, but to my understanding we want whats in the .mdf that as far as common knowledge goes, its pretty much "impossible" (if you're readin this and you got IN, please post here or at least message me)

hey good luck to ya dude

I don't think you guys are understanding the issue I am running into so I took a pic of it

I get this whenever I try to open up designeritems.erf for any dlc or awakening file

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Now you can understand the ERF error I keep getting

Okay, I set the files to always open with toolset, but now I get these instead. (see the icon for designeritems.erf on desktop)

Same exact error when I try to open any erf file in Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\AddIns\ folders

Easiest way I can think of to do that, is to go into an erf file, then EXTRACT one of the .uti files.

How are you finding the uti file names or even extracting anything if you can't even open the file. How are you seeing the table with the names to even extract them? I thought the ERF had to be opened to do this, which as you can see from above I can't get to work for me.

I don't even want to edit the uti's, just want the armor and weapon util file names. So I can plug them into my mod for the next release.

heh, in the event that bioware installations use self decrypting archives, it would seem yours didnt

i believe thats the exact same menu i had before spending 30 hours of my life to get into shale's guts

however, this should not be happening with awakening (assuming your OS & general installation methodology was 'ideal/proper/whatever')

this shouldn't be happening with awakening whatsoever

random theories would be

a.) partition/os/bootmngr/permission/security mixup

b.) copied+pasted something, somewhere or equivalent (injecting registry keys etc to supplement..something, depends on user)

c.) god's wrath

try a fresh install on your main drive as corny as it sounds, and so you know - awakening installs itself to the main dir and wouldnt turn up in your mydocs/addins

its actually in Dragon Age>addins\dao_prc_ep_1, and the rest of the content would be in dragon age>packages>core_ep1 i think, or similar

you just had the wrong idea how about awakenings file structure, its technically considered a "stand alone" product, since it obviously "stands alone" and could even be described as having its own "hierarchy"

anyway, you should be good to go now

enjoy ;]

thanks vet | darke, it works now.

It opens properly when I use

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dragon age origins\addins\dao_prc_ep_1\module\data

I still don't know where the ERF's are for the DLC packs

[i still don't know where the ERF's are for the DLC packs

Don't have a Steam install, (retail disc here) but on my rig they are in the folders under:

"\[user's documents]\Bioware\Dragon age\AddIns\..."

For example, the file "ch_Leliana_song_module.erf " is in the folder:

"\[user's documents]\BioWare\Dragon Age\AddIns\ch_Leliana_song\module\data"

STEAM version. Ahhhhh. Gods, we have all kinds of issues with that darned steam version

But am glad to hear that you got it straightened out. Sorry about the mixup :(

After getting back to the thread and looking at some of your screenshots.... I'd say that yeah... its an encryption thing. I've tried extracting compressed files that had passwords on them before, and they ended up with empty folders that looked exactly like that first screenie that you posted.

But yeah, glad that you got it sorted out. Tho, you might mention from now on that you're using the steam version when you post about a problem. We'll then know that some of teh stuff isnt the same (even if we dont know what the differences are, haha).

Happy gaming and happy modding
