"Adult only content" Where does one draw the line?

Now before I start, if there is a topic or a better section to post this in please direct me to it.

I have a rather serious question for moderators and/or people able to articulate where one would draw a decent line on what constitutes "adults only" in uploaded content.

I know what is considered "decent" and not in terms of black and white, but have my own ideas on the middle, more grey area. I was just wondering where one would call it as inappropriate. I could guess the usual sexually suggestive stuff like skimpy "armor"/clothes, provocative poses, scenes suggesting mature content, etc.

My question is because I cannot find a more clear-cut answer or forum topic, or formalized rule covering this, where does one draw the line? I know there's no "one size fits all" here, I would just like to know where the line stands here.

Any child nudity or sexual or violent acts towards directed children, is a BIG definite 'NO!NO!', which I personally fully support myself...But the "greyer" zones are any show of male/female genitalia or female nipple or sex acts are considered "Adult", though I personally feel if a Game or Mod indulges in graphic kill/dismemberment scenes...such as the vanilla graphic kill moves (aka. Decapitation) or Mod additions (aka. Dismemberment) ...then if sex and the body is so offensive, shouldn't brutality be even more so? But anything of the overt sexual nature or revealing genitalia and female nipple, take it as 'Adult' content.

From the TOS:

Mature content other than nudity

Images showing gore, extreme violence, skimpy outfits and any other subjects that would be frowned upon in a conservative working environment or on a family friendly beach should be tagged as Adult. You should note that tagging an image as Adult does not exempt you from the no-nudity rule on Nexus, the term adult means: content, other than nudity, that is not safe for work/not safe for minors.

Actually thought the Terms of Service covered this topic pretty thoroughly:

Image Share terms and rules
The public image share section is dedicated to sharing screenshots taken in the game featured on the file site that hosts the images, or other images related to that game (e.g. concept drawings of mods being worked on, artistic drawings, etc.).

No unrelated content, no political content, no religious content
The Image Share is not the place to share portraits, family photos, pet images or any other images not related to the featured game. Do not upload images that convey messages related to real world politics or real world religions or include symbols normally associated with active or defunct political parties, religions or movements, in such a way that the image can be interpreted as an attempt to promote their agenda.

No photos of real persons as part of a composition
Unless you have permission or you can prove that it is in the public domain images featuring pictures of living or deceased persons as part of the composition should not be uploaded (e.g. a deck of playing cards with celebrity images).

No nudity
Images showing nudity are absolutely prohibited in the normal image share. This rule is applicable to images showing full frontal/rear nudity and partial nudity (uncovered breasts, genitals, buttocks), pictures showing characters wearing extremely revealing outfits (transparent, semi-transparent dresses, string bikinis, micro-bikinis, clothes that leave sensitive areas or pubic hair visible). Rear-view images of topless female characters are tolerated as long as they are tagged as adult and the pose does not expose a full or partial side view of the breasts. Using patches/pasties/butterflies to cover up non-permissible body parts or images showing characters using their hands to cover up otherwise naked body parts are also not acceptable. Environmental objects (e.g. shrubberies) can be used as long as the 'sensitive' areas are sufficiently covered (the same as the cover a standard bikini would offer).

Non-human/beast races that normally wear clothes or are assumed to wear clothes in the in-game world are considered nude if they are not dressed in the uploaded image the same way that a human would be considered nude or inadequately dressed.

No suggestive content
Images that suggest sexual activity (not including kissing) are not permitted even if the characters are fully clothed or if they are posed in such a way that the 'action' takes place outside the field of view but the sexual activity is clearly discernible.

No extreme content
Although it is covered implicitly by the prohibition of sexually suggestive images, for the sake of clarity, content that portrays extreme violence or sexual fetishes, even if no nudity is shown (including, among other things, bondage, whipping and other extreme fetishes) is also forbidden in the normal image share.

Supporters' Image Share
If you would like to share images that are forbidden from being uploaded to the normal Image Share with other Nexus members you will need to upload your images to the Supporters Image Share section. This section has more relaxed rules, especially in regards to nudity. In order to access the Supporters Image Share section you will need to either be a Supporter or Premium Member.

No illegal content
Images showing copyrighted content, content owned by other persons/entities and obtained/produced without their permission or content that is considered illegal according to the laws of the United Kingdom (e.g. images featuring pedophilia, necrophilia, bestiality, etc.) should not be uploaded either to public Image Share or Supporters' Image Share.

As Joel's mom said, "Use your best judgement. We trust you."

Although we'll drop the BanHammer faster than you can say "But I checked the 'Adult Content"' box!" if you can't figure out that the "NO NUDITY in the general Image Share" clause applies to 'Adult Content' as well. :pinch:

Use some common sense - and don't try to push the boundaries or try to claim something is 'technically' OK because it skirts the precise definition of the rules. Our job is to enforce the rules. We tend to enforcer the spirit of the rules over the exact definition. This is not a court of law where you get to present a convoluted defense before being convicted - We have a few seconds to decide. And that means we often decide to remove the image first, ban or warn the uploader, and if they disagree they can appeal. But they must have a better excuse than "I didn't read the rules." :ermm:

One bit of confusion is that the kiddies believe that 'Adult' only means nudity and has no other meaning. I would have preferred NSFW as that has a looser connotation and covers full nudity as well as near nudity, gore and other inappropriate content. But then we would have had to publish a definition of NSFW for those cultures that don't have that cultural prohibition.

I don't have a real problem with nudity, but I do with real, or implied, sexuality and have found myself shocked on a couple of occasions with scenes of gross violence and bloodshed. I've never really posted any pictures and so am not so familiar with the conditions of posting. I'm glad to hear that it covers these aspects, as well.

Thanks for the responses. I had read the ToS but wanted to really see where the line was drawn simply to stay well within my rights and to positively add to the community.

I really wanted to see more of what people personally call offensive that others might not. Think of it as the saying "I know it when I see it." knowing that one size does not always fit all as well as a bit of a connotative explanation.

Thank you staff and the more veteran members for your response on the matter!
