Retail/Steam copy does not allow saving when using Mods

I bought the retail copy of the game today, and of course had to install steam with it.

After playing awhile I checked Nexus to see if anyone released anything. I downloaded the Carry Weight mod and a few others for i.e.

So then I loaded the game up after installing them and continued to play for about 2 more hours and turned it off.

When I come back I see the game apparently deleted all the saves I had mad since installing any mod. Naturally im pretty pissed at loosing hours of game time.

So I come to the Forums to see what needs to be done. Steam is offline. Archive invalidation is set at I've verified that its staying configured in the .ini file. However the game will not save.

I login create a new save and exit and reload and its gone. I'm about to take it back and demand an xbox copy but I really prefer it on PC.

If anyone knows a full list of steps to correct this that would be awesome I'm at my wits end on this one.

I know it's not an answer to your problem, but you'd definetly need to get with others with Steam and who have already modded.

Personally, I have steam, I do have mods (3), but there's no problem with my saves... (only problem I have is massive sound lag... >.>)

Check out Owners documents\My Games\FalloutNV\Saves

Make sure your saves are actually gone from there as well.

I also skimmed around Bethesda forums (Seeking a solution to my sound lag issue) and found this thread. It may be able to help you a bit more. But overall, you aren't the only one missing saves... And damn sure not the only one with issues...

Teaches me to pre-order games from a company with a history of iffy original releases... >.>

Thanks I'll check that out now. Really appreciate someone responding

DRM steps like this is why people just end up pirating cracked games so they don't have to deal with it. I think a lot of people can agree its not fair that the people shelling out $60+ have to suffer.

I checked out that link. It seems the issue is definitely caused by the steam client. It seems there's some issues where it tries to back up the save from the Steam Servers.

Whoever thought this was a good idea is a moron though. So yeah looks like if its an issue you basically can't play it for a few months until they patch it.

well there's no way in hell i'm shelling out 60 bucks for something that's buggy as hell and with a DRM like steam it makes it harder to actually get mods working. i'll probably wait till a patch comes along to buy it or pirate it seeing as i don't want steam on my computer. although i do have to agree with you about the whole

thing.

MOD EDIT:

User banned for promoting piracy, here and in another topic.

"Damnit Gabe!"

Seriously this is ridiculous. Obsidian basically hijacked the Weapon Mod Kit mod and they think that Steam was a good idea? WTF Bethesda?

I've stuck to only messing around with Reskining stuff. I'll be a good little money tree and play it 'vanilla' till they patch it to working order...

I've been using the 'Mysterious Stranger' armor mod for awhile now without problems. Activated the .esp using the data files option in the launcher and everything has been running smoothly. Though my game was downloaded from steam, I didn't bother with a retail disk because the game is only 50$ on steam. Theres really no reason what-so-ever to buy a retail disk.

actually, there might be a temporary fix to the saving problems.

if you go to Steam's library, right click on NV and hit properties, youll get a menu. in the Updates youll see "Steam cloud synchronization". click that off and your game will have a better chance of being there when you play NV.

also, ive heard that steam has disabled the save-file update anyways, at least until they can debug it

I've also heard that Steam cloud has been turned off for this game. People are still reporting problems with that temporary fix and after Valve disabled Cloud in the game. It's an engine bug, most likely.
