Immersive HUD

I played around with the HUD settings.

Elements:

Radar, Hotbar, Questlog and Party

Current settings

Default: All always on

Contextual: Party is only visible if one member is injured and in battles

Always Off: All always off

Questlog fade: I think if you have an active quest in the area, it is always on. Otherwise it pops up on updates.

IMHO something in between is missing.

For example:

The Contextual could disable everything but the Radar outside of battles and tactical mode.

Questlog only for updates a couple of seconds (does that anyway).

Yes, some mod that allows a setting in between all on and all off.

I think even a hotkey to switch between the settings on the fly would be great. The latest cheatengine table has such a feature, but who wants to have that running all the time with the game.

At the moment you have to go: ESC -> Options -> Interface -> <change settings> -> Back -> Confirm with YES -> ESC

to switch between all on and all off. And then there is no Radar with all off, which I think is essential (self marked targets on the map are not visible in the plain without the Radar on).

Some first steps:

exploring: http://i.imgur.com/l8L13pi.jpg

combat: http://i.imgur.com/g7JhwSG.jpg

looting: http://i.imgur.com/JzAyD5B.jpg

journal and other floating text: http://i.imgur.com/0RxHSCq.jpg

Problem: All the keybindings of the bottom right elements I removed cannot be reassigned and are not usable. Questmap, Character Abilities, Pause, Inventory need to be accessed via ESC menu.

Attack buttons and potions work via keys. (1-0)

Attack my target (Y) works

Tactical menu (T) works and automatically pauses the screen, can be used instead of Ctrl.

Hold position (H) works

Clear Commands (K) works

I agree with this. Basically he is saying that the Contextual Only option in the Interface menu is still not good enough, because 1.) the skill bar is always visible even when you're not in combat, and 2.) an option to enable/disable radar, or better yet from a HOTKEY, would be fantastic.

Anyone who has played a TES game, or any mod-able RPG where you can disable the minimap/compass, should know that feeling of immersion as you are forced to actually look at your surroundings instead of checking the minimap every few seconds. I'd love the option to turn off the radar when I'm in Skyhold, or any place familiar enough to not have to check the map.

The Always Off setting is basically useless unless you are taking screenshots. Because none of the HUD shows up even in combat, its not that bad for the skillbar but not being able to see your health at all is pretty bad. So if a mod can make everything turn off but ONLY show the health bars when combat is initiated, would also be a useful mod.

I know its been a very long time, but has anyone succeeded with this? I always found it really odd that the contextual elements all worked correctly for controller, but when using keyboard and mouse, the skill bar remained static. It really should also be contextual.

I remember contacting Bioware about this at the time, but they pretended not to understand the problem. Now it is apparent that they actually may not have been able to make it work? Is this even possible? Frostbite must be so much more unwieldy than people say...

Anyway, any progress on this?
