Can a mod be in it's own folder inside Data folder?

Right. So I just recently cleaned out all my mods so I could start over and am now in the long and arduous process of reinstalling all the old ones I still want and new ones to replace some old ones, etc. Anyway, one of the mods is Norse and Celtic rugs. It doesn't have an installer so I have to install it manually. Basically all I did was open the downloaded file and extract the whole thing into C:/>Steam>SteamApps>Common>Skyrim>Data.

But the thing is that it's in its own folder where I have to go into two or three folders before I finally get to the folders of Meshes and Textures. I haven't started up Skyrim yet to check if this worked yet (because I'm still in the process of adding all my mods back) but what I'm wondering is, does this mod work like this even inside all these other folders? Or do I have to take them out so they're just in the Data folder? And if I did, would I just take the Meshes and Textures folders and just move them out to be loose?

Thanks.

Just extract it into the Data folder like it is. If the archive opens to a bunch of folders like meshes and such, then extract the entire archive to the Data folder.

If there is a Data folder in the archive and the respective folders underneath, then extract the contents of the Data folder in the archive to the Data folder in your Skyrim folder.

Actually, this is a good question for someone brand new onto the scene. Literally brand new so please excuse me if this is one of those 'noob' questions but...

Is it possible to package things in a folder in the data folder and still have them work? I mean is there not a method that when Skyrim goes looking for one file you point it to another? Then you could just bundle all of your files in one folder in the data folder?

If the mod has their own "Data Folder" I would think that all ou have to do is drag it into Skyrims Data folder, which should merge any files within the mods "Data Folder" into Skyrims Data folder. Like any meshes and textures it has will be thrown into Skyrim meshes and texturs of the same type. Like all rug textures and meshes in the Vanilla game for instance will be overwritten with the mods. That's how I understand it anyawy.

  • 4 years later...

Why does Nexus Mod Manager force me to locate mod files within a directory where it is trying to get them from a "data" folder inside my existing data folder? Why do I have a data folder inside my data folder and how to I make NMM just locate them from the regular data folder?
