Alistair's heritage - I am stuck

Greetings,

may I ask for some advice on getting Alistair's quest to trigger please? His approval is 93, we go to Redcliffe and there (according to Gamebanshee) he should run to me and start his confession.

The thing is, he doesn't.

At first I thought maybe he would take the plunge before the castle, but he did not. He is perfectly happy, has this massive constitution on. Yet no revelations about his heritage. What did I do wrong?

I am worried the only way is to go back. Which I would prefer not to, because after the nighttime battle, I went to the castle, summoned the help from the Circle, rebuked the demon lass and saved the day. On the other hand, I need Alistair hardened. It cannot be done if he does not meet his sister, whuch will not be available if he does not make the first move. Could you help me please? Is there a workaround for this? I know there is a mod for manual hardening of Leliana, maybe a similar thing exists for Allie? Thank you in advance for any hints.

Alistair must be in the party the first time you enter Redcliffe for his backstory reveal to trigger. Other wise, it doesn't come until much later in the game, after a certain main quest

involving Arl Eamon

is completed, and then

it won't come from Alistair, but from a 3rd party.

(not sure how spoiled you are or want to be...)

Either way, once one or the other of those events happen, if his approval is at least a meagre 26 or greater, Alistair will then offer his personal/hardening quest ('Alistair's Family'), the next time the player initiates conversation with him. (Not sure if that interaction needs to be initiated outside party camp, sorry. I haven't played the game in years and am getting a bit rusty on the exact mechanics.)

You can cheat Alistair's 'hardened' flag with one of the items from MetaGame Items. I am uncertain if doing so before the legitimate opportunity to set that flag has passed will have a deleterious effect on anything, so caveat modder.

Theskymoves... Which time is this that you are saving me so much trouble? :D

Thanks heaps! I'm actually coming near to that particular quest, so I won't need to reload before Redcliffe! I can wait - I am extremely grateful.

Heh! No problem... there aren't many people left around the board doing general troubleshooting, and the project I'm working on at the moment is bo-o-o-o-o-oo-ring, so these days I'm more likely to stick my nose in here than usual. I'm only useful for Alistair questions, though. :-/

Happy hardening!
