Apachii Lore-Friendly Hair Selection

Hi everyone c:

I always wanted to install some modded hair to my game, but with few exceptions almost every hair mod that I see around is absolutely NOT lore friendly or low quality content.

And then there's Apachii mod, which is a HUGE compilation of hair (good and bad), but most of them aren't even close to be lore friendly :c
There are some hairstyles that I would really like to have in my game, I just don't know exaclty HOW to extract them separately, plus I would like to adjust the textures a bit. So if anyone could help me with this it would be nice! :D

Here are the hairstyles that I like the most: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5

I'm really new to modding, so I hope this is not too much to ask (I also hope I didn't posted in the wrong part of the forum) c:

P.S. Sorry for my bad english, I tried my best :c

Afaik, it does not add the hairstyles to e.g. existing NPCs, so... just don't use the not-lore-friendly hairstyles?

btw. I was curious to see what you consider "not lore friendly hair" (there is no hair lore) and saw that the mohawks and anime hair are among the hairstyles you like. So, what exactly is not lore friendly when it comes to hair?

For texturing you'll want GIMP.

I could do that, but it's indeed a huge load of content and a waste of space, and I don't want to make the game more heavy by adding stuff I wouldn't use :c not to mention the hours (I'm exaggerating) spent in racemenu trying to find the one hair that I want to use... hehe

Thank you for the reply btw :3

Well, the world of Elder Scrolls is a "medieval-like fantasy" universe or something like that, and your character is usually a warrior, someone who get in a lot of fights. Some of those hairstyles doesn't seem really "natural" to me, they all seems really too much modern and "adjusted" (I don't really know how to explain it but I think you got my point).

I'm pretty good with Photoshop, but the real question is how to extract the textures and put them back in the files :P

The game will read loose texture files and models as long as they're in the correct sub-folders, so you don't have to repack them into the mod.

And yes, there are quite a few that are not lore-friendly, like Kozaburo's "Jessica Rabbit" hair or the Justin Bieber hair. However, the anime hairstyles are equally not lore-friendly. While most of the hairs are well-made and textured better than the vanilla hairs, not many "fit" within Skyrim's overall visual themes. Then again, neither do the knock-kneed bubble-butt thunder-thighs female body replacers or the skimpy armors and sexy walks and jiggly-boobs-in-heavy-armor mods, but who's counting?

Another mod you might pick up instead is the lore-friendly vanilla hair retexture. Makes the vanilla hairs look a lot better, at least from a texture standpoint.

Thank you for the quick answer c: sadly I don't really like most of those hairstyles too. I was wondering if there is a way to modify the Apachii mod in order to obtain just the hair that I want, maybe with the Creation Kit?

"Anything that you previously thought was too chic for the times (I'm looking at you, male Khajiit hair with multicolored highlights) has been made unplayable with a simple .esp tweak in the Creation Kit. Not only will this eliminate lore-unfriendly hairs, but since they won't be in the game at all, it'll actually boost performance if you use the "showracemenu" command frequently."

And there you have it - no need to burden yourself with exploring your options, as they've been explored for you and decisions were made so you don't have to make a conscious effort.

lol

I wish I could help you with isolating the hair that you like but I'm no modder myself. I do have a few of links to hair I think you're going for. (Mostly female.) Try to see if you like them.

If you search for "hair" on the site you'd also be able to find alternate/better textures for some of the Apachii hair and vanilla ones. The download links I provided could have other textures offered so try to check those out too.

Edit: Don't mind me, I just kept adding to the list.
