DA:O Ultimate Edition Memory Leak Issue

Hello. I recently got the Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition. Comes with all 7 DLC and is patched up to 1.04 the latest. After about 5 minutes of playing in Ostagar and the Kocari Wilds, the game drops framerate. On the origins the game doesn't have a problem as much. I did some forum searching and found out about a common bug with the patches, the game has a memory leak. I tried assigning priority and affinity with task manager, gives me more time before the slow frames but it still happens after 10-15 minutes. This issue makes the game nearly unplayable. I know my comp can run DA:O on max settings, I had the game before without patches or DLC.

I'm making the post to see if anyone has any answers besides waiting for an official fix from Bioware. If anyone knows a mod that fixes this issue I'd greatly appreciate your help.

Interesting observation: A friend of mine is using a Intel 7 processor while I'm using a Dual Core. We have the same ram, 6gb. It seems having more processing power helps but eventually he gets the framerate slow as well. It doesnt happen as quickly to his game.

Oh this is an issue I've had as well. =( I'm not sure if this applies to you, but if you purchased the Steam version I've heard that the Steam-overlay may cause this problem on certain systems. I think I disabled the overlay and went back, and it's been fine as far as I've noticed (though I haven't been playing it for lengthy times lately), even when I reenabled it.

If your problem lies elsewhere... good luck! =)

I know im a bit late for the answer to the million dollar question regarding the DAO memory leak, but i thought it important enough to put this out there, because it is the only solution i have found that works...

Dragon Age Origins Memory leak workaround ,

Greetings All! I have discovered the secret to continued gameplay even after the memory leak crashes start. You have to download this memory enhancement tool and apply it the DA application exe file. see link: http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/large-address-aware.112556/

After 2 years searching for a way to fix this, the only thing that works is this app which allows for 4 GB of memory to be allocated to DA Origins as opposed to 2 GB which doesn't seem to be enough once your character has multiple saves deep into a campaign where the game has to keep track of all the events, equipment, relationships, completed missions, DLC, etc. I have tested this and can now play all the DLC without crashing!

The "Large Array Aware" (LAA) hak is a well known work-around for older Windows games (and other programs.) I've been using it since back when the 1.03 patch made DAO unplayable for me otherwise. I've also applied it to the Toolset since that's the only way I can load and edit save files larger than about 1MB. It can't be used with a Steam install, however, since it changes the base executable in a way that Steam will detect and "repair".

NOTE: The LAA hak doesn't "fix" the problem. It just makes it possible to play longer before it becomes an issue!

Ok well i will hold my breath and keep fingers crossed that i can complete all the DLC included in the Ultimate Edition so as to put together a history worthy of imports into DA2 or a custom world state for use with the new superb Inquisition game on PC! Wish me luck i am just about to complete Witch Hunt with my Origins warden.

VERY LATE UPDATE:

The LAA application does allow the game to continue in spite of the memory link, but only if you dont create any extra saves, you have to turn off autosave, and only use quicksave... I know it sucks but at least one can continue the ultra cool storyline with the DLC. I have successfully finished Witch Hunt and the Golems of Amgarrak! Now working in Awakenings...

greywardengirl you the same person who made the same claim on the steam forum?

The steam exe refuses to run when patched, so you not telling the whole truth.

In various documents, people have confirmed that the steam ultimate version cannot be patched as it wont start.
