Big Red Diamon Exclamation marks....

Not sure which mod is causing it, but for some reason all the new npc's that have been added all have giant red diamonds over them with a white exclamation mark down the center...The npcs work when you talk to them and all, but it obviously doesnt look right. Some of the new mods i have installed are like the Bettsy companion, the new vegas bounties is another one....these are obviously character npc's that were made for these mods. what i dont know or cant figure out is what other mod or setting could be causing the big red diamond/exclamation points on them.... any help would be greatly appreciated. Make sure you've installed your textures and everything to the correct location. Typically the red diamond with the exclamation point is telling you that the textures cannot be found (or is it the mesh files?). Either way, be sure everything is installed correctly and the file structure wasn't changed when you moved the mod files to your DATA folder. If you haven't already, get the ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated utility and run that just in case.

Hope that helps.

Oh, also check your load order in Fallout Mod Manager. If there is a conflict with another mod, changing your load order could potentially fix this problem. Mods lower on the list override mods above them.

Thank you so much! i went back to my data folder & found where i had transfered Bella's esp file and her own folder, but had not yet merged her personal mesh and textures to the actual data file mesh & texture folders. once i did that... i put on her glasses & she showed up with no red diamond exclamation mark! And she has regular hair and no red demon eyes like before...(she looked like a smiling bald drow elf before...no lieing). so to any who read this... make sure your mods mesh & texture files get copied to the main data file. it will ask to merge & says it will ask if you want duplicates to be overwritten. They never are so just clik ok...and WAALAA! no more red diamond exclamation marks mucking things up! Thanks again for the advice....

So just to be sure every file in a mod has to be put into the DATA folder correct?

Yes. The game comes with a main Data folder... As you collect mods to add the ESP file as well as any folders labeled "Textures" "Meshes" and "Sounds". put them all in the data folder. If you Unzip/Unrar a file and the mesh, textures & sound folders are in one folder... Take them out of the one folder and put them in the main Data folder. As you add other mods that have their own mesh, texture & sound folders just add them. It will not make several mesh folders but one mesh folder with all the mesh files for all the mods going into that folder. Same for the sound & texture folders too. It wont Overwrite anything without you know it first. Then make sure they are checked in the data option when you first start the game. I was having major issues with the companion Bella & her home because i didnt take her personal Mesh/Texture/Sound folders and seperate them out the one unzipped folder. The game found the esp & her home and all ok... But she had no hair, demon eys and had pale blue skin(Not to mention the big Diamond shaped Exclamation point in front of her...) once i took the files out of her unzipped folder and MERGED them with the main games data folder... I loaded up my saved game and she was normal looking... Hope this helped you.... 8)

Yes, your mod manager should have unpacked that correctly. But you have to enable "Archive Invalidation" manually in most. And there are other possible causes. See this "TESTG" article on troubleshooting such "missing mesh/texture" errors.
