They're Dark Elves, Not Humans!

I suppose it's just my own weird take, but I find that a good many of the Dark Elf mods exhibit a kind of anti-Dark Elf bias. It seems that a rather large percentage of the modders want Dark Elves/Dunmer to be more like humans...with near perfect complexions and large luminous eyes to boot. Sorry, I like the original Dunmer physiognomy just fine. In fact, my preferred running toon is usually a Dunmer male and I have a very strong tendency to make him look like a grim, hard bitten elf who's spent most of his life coping with the harsh world that outdoor Morrowind has become. I like my ladies to have the same look. Imho, Damned1492s Dunmer assassin (supre/super AI) is one of the most realistic Dark Elf assassin faces in the game. Pursuant to that comment, the assassin trio he/she has created is one of the best sets of followers in the game.

I know, we're dealing with a FANTASY game here, so it's all just a matter of personal taste. I suppose if I want hard core reality, I should go play Game of Thrones or Witcher. Actually, those are all good, but I really, really like the open world of Skyrim. I've played this game for thousands of hours(It's my version of Solitaire.) just to pass the time and escape reality, and I still discover the occasional nook or cranny that offers a new experience in the game. I play without the music as well. It's amazing how many voices and sounds there are.

Okay, time to stop. Have fun all.

Personal bias, I dislike this trend of calling the players character a "toon." But I'm an 80's baby and all I think of when I see it is a nasty slur from Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

See how very meaningless my personal bias is to you?

Skyrim is a moddable game so that every player's game can be uniquely tailored to their tastes. If you see someone's game is modded in a way you don't like, just count your lucky stars that it's not yours and move on. If you see a mod that you don't like - just quietly move on. No need to denigrate others tastes or opinions to emphasize your own.

I've played elves and dark elves in every game I've played that offers the race since Everquest 1. Not Skyrim however, not a single elf has made it past character creation. I like them distinct from Humans.. but not painfully ugly as I find the Skyrim mer to be.

Too repulsive, the facial structure is just.. bestial. That is "my" opinion though.

Oddly enough, in many games that offer Elven races, the claim is that too many people play them . I'm not talking just the Asian salvatori sexpot drow either, games like vanguard, dragonage, Everquest 1&2, LoTro, ect offer elves that are far from the sexualized types...

(yes I know you can remake them, but I choose other plug ins since it is not a simple fix)

But the dunmer is the best race to get that "tired of your s#*!." look, and you can't argue about that!

Old nord women look more beastly though.

Just personal preference? A lot of asian modders like to make characters look more "beautiful". It's all in good fun. Inaccurate? Yeah. But some people don't care we just want our character to look how we want so that we have fun. That's what games are for.

^This. And ugh, I agree about the f*#@ing "toon" thing! I thought people only used that word in tera...referring to characters as "toon" is so dumb to me.

....anyways back on track, and like this person said, it's all just personal preference and opinion, ey OP? What I like you may not, and the other way around. I honestly waited all these years to play skyrim until I found mods to make my characters look how I want. That's just how some people are :3

Modding unlocks so many possibilities, and is a great way for people to be creative. Sure downloading a bunch of fairy fawn centaur alien flawless weird-ass races isn't exactly lore-friendly, but just let people do their thing, and you do yours c:

It's not even an online game so I don't get why what someone else puts in their game matters to you xD

Ah well, okay I'll quit using the term "toons" since it seems to be repugnant to some folks. However, what is the accepted term...bitmap, character...? The term toon isn't intended to denigrate a creation, however, we not typing about real people here. I think I got into the habit on WOW and I've done it ever since. BTW, help me to understand the unwritten rules of Nexus: Let's see, it's a no-no to be critical of a mod...correct? This is true even if a particular modder isn't being singled out by name...correct? I freely admit that I don't mod, but I do like to state my preferences. I guess I could single out mods that I particularly like and completely avoid any reference to those types that I don't like. Yeah, that seems to be the smart street to walk down.

BTW, I think anime characters are absolutely hot, and I do run'em on occasion. Depends on how lore intense I am at the time.

Sticking to the positives and describing what you like rather than what you dislike is always wise.

The Elder Scrolls series is in the long line of role playing games so the traditional term is character. Use of NPC (non-player character) is common but abbreviations for the main character like PC and char are less common here. Some general gaming industry terms like Actor and Boss have made their way into Skyrim terminology, but only on the development side. You'll find references to bandit leaders, master vampires, etc. in the game and to those of us from the old RPG tradition it just sounds really odd to use terms like "boss battles" that were coined by the action games. Toon always conjures images of Rodger Rabbit and the silly game by Steve Jackson Games of that same name for me which makes is seem very out of place when talking about Skyrim characters. (OK, I slipped into negative mode a little there at the end. It happens to all of us.)

Eh, feel free to use whatever terms you like, there are people who like'em and hate'em. It just sounds like kind of an old person thing to me that the older adults say on Tera xD And I apologize for coming off as an ass, I admit that was uncalled for, I was just saying that it's something that is easy to ignore - as is with my dislike for the word "toon".

But I can assure you you're not alone, my boyfriend HAAAATES how I "ruined" Skyrim by installing loli/anime mods...heheh. I don't know, I have no issues with the NPCs but the hard, old options in te character creation isn't just the look for me. When I play a game with a personalized character, I want to get it as close to "me" (not me as in my appearance, me as in my tastes) so I can enjoy the game fully, y'know? Guess it's just all about aesthetics. So long as the player is having fun that's all that matters right :o

But hey, some funny stuff comes out of this stuff, too! I sent this picture to my bae and he captioned it with,

"Excuse me, uncle? This f*#@ing creature thinks that by wearing clothes, it can pass for an actual f*#@ing human being."

If you really hate how certain mods/custom races look, you know what you should do? See if they have any NPCs for said race, download them, and then kill them all BRUTALLY. No, I'm serious xD
