Unbalanced?? Well, yes!

i too, found it easy around level 15, then i decided to jump the difficulty meter from +20 to +80, things were harder, then at level 30, things were to easy, so i did it again, up to +100, and things wernt too much different.

i ended up making a little mod for my own personal use for my high level dark elf only, (now hes 83, on a cd, since i cant play morrowind untill i get a better computer...long story) i decided to double the prices for everything in morrowind, double the enemy damage/mana/hp/stamina the lot, i even made some weapons weaker just to spice things up a little, and now, after playing it on my friends laptop, its insanely hard, i ended up fighting the orc with unbra, in 7 hits, i was dead, and my character has a full her hands armor set, with a stregnth and intelligence of 150 each, rest are at 100, except luck, which was at 93, but back to to umbra, i fought him for about 20minutes and he wasnt dead, and it was challenging, very, but not as hard as dagoth ur, or the bloody draugr, almost every fight i has was 3 minutes at least, although i took all the cliff racers and rats and scribs, those beetles, and changed them with greater bonewalkers, and ogrim's, and now, i still find morrowind addictive, although im forced to play project gotham 2 on x-box due to my computer being gay and a pentium 3.

but, with morrowind, you can do anything, if you run out, fiddle with the editor, youll make the experience even more enjoyable.

I have a shear lack of willpower when it comes to being "able" to powergame to lvl 75+ so im making me a little mod that removes the training option from all NPCS that have it, and combing it with a mod that removes creeper/mudcrab so i woulnt be lvl 75 in 3hrs of gameplay anymore. cause lets face it as long as the option to do Alchemy + Creeper + Master Trainer is there its very hard not to utilize it. personaly I think beth should have left the master trainer/creeper and mudcrab out of the game but thats just my opinion.

i ended up doing that, removed the training options from the master trainers, killed off the creeper and mudcrab, was much harder.

Even with the difficulty slider set to 100 I am finding most fights too easy. My character is level 15, has a displayed armor level of 51, 90 strength and is using an ebony broadsword (4-26 damage) with an absorb health 5-18 enchantment on it. That is by no means an uber character. I have much better weapons and armor I could use, but I chose equipment that I liked the look of rather than the most effective equipment. I could be using Chrysmere and the Lords Mail if I really wanted to.

What is annoying is that MOST fights are easy, but SOME fights are dead hard. The reason is that my character really cannot take many blows before dying. Against most NPCs and critters, he wins the fights without taking any damage: many critters miss him and he tends to strike so fast that they often do not get a hit in - even though the ebony broadsword is a fairly slow weapon. However, if a critter does get a hit, my character tends to lose most of his health. Usually, two good hits from a storm atronach or similar will finish him. This tends to make combat more frustrating than challenging.

In general, the fights are too short. Either I kill my enemy in 3-4 blows or he kills me in 1-2. I would much rather have a slugfest against most components, particularly critters that look very resilient such as atronachs and ogrims. The only really good fight I've had recently was against a Dagoth and even that only lasted 15 seconds or so.

Another issue with my character is choosing The Atronach as my birth sign. The 50% spell absorption really makes the higher level creatures, which tend to use magic, much too easy.

As some people mentioned above, Morrowind is good because you can make mods. I noticed that there are a few mods that give all enemies much more health. I am going to be trying those out. Unfortunately, the character that is having an easy time is on the Xbox, so I guess I am going to have to start a new character there.

i noticed that too, with the difficulty slider on +100, i found some fights easy and some insanely fustrating.

my character at that period of time.

Misanthrope

level 9

based around magic and fighting, had a intelligence of 94, and willpower of 50something.

specialised in short weapons, was using sword of white woe (CHEAPO!) at the time.

specialised in medium armor, was using dreugh and bonemold at the time.

Major skills - Alchemy - short sword - conjuration - destruction - security

minor skills- enchant - alteration - illusion - mercantile - medium armor

now, i came across umbra near suran i think, somewhere close by an egg mine up a hill, i decided to challenge him for his sword even though i couldnt use it, i felt i had to have it, and kill one more orc ;) , anyway, i got the first hit with my sword and the health bar poped up, hes hit me once, DEAD, then i reloaded, cast a ocean of spells on me before talking to him, began to fight him, one hit and im almost dead, then im DEAD.

in another case when i remembering fighting dagoth ur, i was level 12, with my stats somewhat the same, because i tried to increase my strength and agility, i proceeded to fight him, hit hit miss hit miss hit hit hit dead...he was too easy for a god, yet i found alemexia practically impossible without the right tools.

but, since bethesda sortof rushed this game out, they probably didnt get to do much beta testing, since they were nearing their deadline, which i think was supposed to be april or something, a couple of years back, if they took more time into it, playtested it, evened it all out more, it would have been even better.

although, i have noticed this unbalancing problems in many RPG's, for example, Ultima 8, i just dusted off my old ultima complete box set, installed ultima 8, ran it in a dos emulator, and i realised one thing, the freedom, the choices, the fact that you can interact with almost every little item in it, it reminded me too much of morrowind, so free, yet so unbalanced, my first fight against some giant spider, well, i got annihilated, even with a mace, and some dodgy leather armor, so i tried out the cheats, got the best items, on my character, and got killed by the same monster, so not all RPG's were balanced, i guess it just runs in the RPG family...for that sence of power, or weakness at times.

Not all RPGs are balanced, but you have to play them intelligently. If you think about it, there is only a certain amount of leveled creatures and treasures that you can include with a game the scope of Morrowind without destroying the fabric of the game. Leveled creatures and treasures are those that get higher, stronger, and more potent the higher level you are when you find them.

There are a number of single creatures and items that are meant to be as they are - NPCs, for one. Imagine the strain on the engine if every creature, NPC, and item in Morrowind had 5-10 different iterations, depending on what level you were when you met them. If you run into one of these constant creatures in the beginning of the game, they may be tough, but the same creature at 15th level is a pushover. At the same time, how would you like a game that could throw a golden saint at you at first level? If you include more powerful monsters in the early going, this is what could happen to you if you made them all available at any level to "toughen" up the game.

Here are a couple of thoughts on things to do to toughen up the game (besides setting the difficulty slider to 100, which I strongly suggest anyway).

1) Try enchanting a weapon with the following - every time it uses its main power, it harms your stats. Maybe it does equal damage to you that it does to what you're fighting. Perhaps you can also put a huge penalty on it for unequipping it (need a mod, I think). It's interesting playing when you need to limit the amount of combat you want to do.

2) My favorite character is a Breton specialized class that is very hard to play early on. I take the Apprentice as the sign, with STr/Int as the additions and magic as the focus. (starts with 180 sp, 40 hp, and highest combat skill at 15)

Major Skills - Destruction, Mysticism, Alteration, Restoration, Illusion

Minor Skills - Long blade, blunt weapon, medium armor, acrobatics, athletics

3) Play as a lawful citizen - this means no stealing from anyone, unless directed by your guild. Suddenly a lot of the weapons and items that are out there suddenly become out of reach because of the restrictions of law.

Try these and see what happens

you fot Mr. Ur 1. He only has 200 health. Mr. Ur 2 has perma 1000 health until you destroy the heart.

yeah i knew that, i just ran straight towards the heart, and since i bunnyhopped throughout the whole game, my acrobatics was 90something, so jumping down there with no damage was easy for me.

although, the reason why it was so easy was because dagoth ur 2 fell into the lava, it was pretty funny too.

I am level 14 and the game doesn't seem easy at all. ^_^ (note: I don't even have a difficulty slider so...) But, I was going to this place called Oridniran (sp?) for House Hlaalu, and on the way I found two Clanfears or Clanlears or something and it took about 3 hits to kill me. (I am a bosmer thief, major skills: Marksman, Security, Destruction, Alteration, Light Armor all in the fortys -magic skills- and 50s) So I loaded that game up again. And I whent in and a skeletal champion whailed on me in 4 hits. So I used Almisivi Intervention.... But maybe its just me... B)

From my playing experiance ive noticed this;

Melee Fighters tend to get to easy around lvl 15

Mages tend to get to easy around lvl 30

Theif melee tends to get to easy around lvl 20

Theif ranged tend to get to easy as soon as you max out marksman.

basicaly theif and mage types dont tend to gain HP's quickly without some serious power gaming so their difficult period tends to last a little longer then a melee fighter that gets 5x endurance pumps from medium and heavy armor skill.
