A forsaken library lost in the Mojave, six sentient machines, one damaged frontal lobe and you, Player.

You’ve been walking trough the Mojave Desert for quite a while now. Your luck and water both ran out, a bullet hole in your canteen. You expected the raiders in the region to be ruthless but you didn’t expected them to be so *many*. While you succeeded in losing them in the maze of the cliffsides, you also managed to lose yourself.

 

With a slightly masochistic urge, you scratch the barely closed wound on your forehead and wonder what you are to do next. Your left eye stings for a bit, and your sight freezes on a cave entrance you didn’t notice until now.

Determined to find a solution to your predicament – temporary as it may – you set yourself up to explore this cavern. But what you find there makes you quickly wonder if there are still some misfortunes left for you.

On the ground, a message, hastily scribbled on a torn sheet of paper: “one of them lies but I do not know which one. Be careful.”

Despite the ominous setting, you press on, driven by a sense of confident premonition you’re not even bothering to understand.

 

You’re barely surprised when you find a titanic door to an underground vault.

This place has been untouched for what…decades? Centuries? Was this place built before the bombs fell?

The persistent sound of the aeration system strengthens as you come closer to the bowels of this daedalus, as if the whole atmosphere was pumped in the never-ending inspiration of an awakening giant.

 

At the end of the corridor, a room filled with vast rows of books suddenly lightens up and, in a bizarre display of joy, the robot that was standing still in its center suddenly erupts at your arrival:

“At last! Welcome to the library, dear guest. We were expecting you!”

FAQ

-What is Autumn Leaves?

 

It’s a partially-voiced adventure with a heavy focus on plot and investigation. In Autumn Leaves, the player will discover a derelict library inhabited by sentient machines.

Each with their own back-story and agency. What happens from that moment will depend on you, the player.

 

-What’s your inspirations? What is Autumn Leaves general feeling?

I love RPGs of the old kind : Fallout, Arcanum, Ultima Underworld, Morrowind and most of all, Planescape : Torment. These games had such an impact on my views on RPG that I wouldn’t be able to escape their influence, even if I wanted to. Autumn Leaves is a kind of tribute to the people who made them.

 

As such, there is heavy focus on dialogue, research, optional routes, and a lot of secret things to discover.

 

It features :

- 5 hours of play
- 10 new quests
- 20 Unique new abilities and perks
- Several different endings
- Skillchecks
- Non-Linear quest resolutions

 

What's the story so far?

 

"Some years before the nuclear catastrophe, a small number of men and women – wealthy and well-intentioned - were growing increasingly worried by the political unrest across their countries. Moral panic, witch hunts, and censorship spread like wildfire."

 

"This congregation - often scientists, professors, artists - felt the need for a place where humanity's history and culture could be preserved, safe from those who would destroy it for its “seditious” content. They pooled their resources in the hopes of creating such a place, free from the volatile swing of political agenda. “

 

“A Vault was to be built. Within it would be enclosed the most comprehensive collection of books and holotapes in history. The project owed much to the efforts of one Professor Cartwright, who at the time worked for a certain Robert Edwin House at the Robco Company and used this position to secure valuable contacts within Vault-Tec."

 

"As the construction of this Library began, the intellectuals gathered their private collections, and hunted tirelessly for rare texts to complete them. They also agreed that Cartwright should oversee the process, and act as the Library's caretaker; when it was time, all would gather for shelter, and seal the doors behind them. “

 

“No one predicted, however, that the bombs were to fall so early. When they did, Cartwright was alone in the Library.”

 

“The Professor knew that his days were numbered. To ensure that the Library would not die with him, he spent his time reprogramming his protectrons. The machines would ensure that the Library would persevere, until the world could once again take advantage of its wisdom."

 

"He would endow them with the ability to think, the ability to choose, the ability to learn. Partly because he feared the dangers that might threaten the Library in years to come. Partly because, as the years grew long, he needed someone - something - to soothe his solitude.”

 

 

 

“All of this happened more than 200 years ago.

 

Today is the day the Courier awakens the Library from its long sleep.”

Very dope, sound promising. I've wanted to do the upside-down thing for a long time, but was waiting to do a horror mod with it. Cool looking project, I'll track it for progress updates for sure.

And Skyzoo, if you like upside down horror, play Devil's Wish for Fallout 3. It's so traumatizing my character literally refused to play it a second time. Meaning in practice I had to play it as myself while she hurled back a cold one in the bar of the GNR garrison mod

Autumn Leaves Feature Update !

 

Printing Cards :

 

Autumn Leaves takes place in a library taken care of by sentient machines. In this library, as you guessed, there’s quite a number of books. One “Dean Electronics” here, another “Lying, Congressional Style” there, lost in those countless shelves, that’s to be expected. But there is one collection of books that is kept away from the most greedy hands, a collection of dangerous military, chemical and biological knowledge. Robots, being the wise-ass that they are, deemed those too risky to be given freely to anyone passing by.

 

The Courier can get access to this collection, though, under a certain set of conditions. One of them is that s/he carries with him/her a sufficient amount of “Printing Cards.”

 

 

In Gameplay terms, the Player will be able to learn exclusive and unique perks by finding and reading some rare books. Some will enhance his or her combat performance, some might teach new incredible recipes, but all of them will need the player to have “Printing Cards” : they are the currency that allow the player to get these prized manuals.

 

But Printing Cards, well, they can only be earned through two methods : the first, by being of some exceptional service to the Library, and the other by finding some of those cards that were scattered through the whole place (by one of the Library’s previous guest, quite the paranoïd fellow, that one, as you’ll discover.)

 

In short, there are 20 Cards available through quests, and 30 others by unconventional means.

 

Some of them will be available to the players that pay attention to their surroundings, others will be found if the player solves certain riddles.

 

 

(Average Price for a special “Perk Book” varies between 5 to 10 Printing Cards.)

 

Easter Egg Hunts have always been a staple of the Fallout serie, one way or the other, I hope you will have as much fun finding them all as I had hiding them!

Have to say, this looks really promising. Love what you've showed us in these few images, the interiors look really unique and detailed. And that conversation with the robot looks brilliant. Color me excited for this mod.
