Fallout: New Vegas

I am not using an ENB, just FNV Realistic Wasteland lighting as my lighting mod.

I noticed this strange phenomenon occurring about 2 - 4 months ago.

When using the game's AA (highest option), I notice strange flashes of white spots and blotches on the games landscape, some near, some far away, some big, some tiny. After research on the issue, I found out it was a driver related issue and that is was a problem for Nvidia users back in the launch days who were using the latest drivers released at the time. Therefore, I can only assume that my latest (or second-latest) driver has is causing these artifacts (as I could have sworn this has only started recently, or at least I started noticing them recently).

I've tried a fix in which involved changing the game's AA in nvidia inspector to Fallout 3's or something and that didn't work.

I've tried using an SMAA injector as an alternative, but it is not as good as the vanilla game's AA at its highest setting.

I am currently also not using ENBs, as I want that super smooth fps with minimal drops and/or graphical glitches.

I am using a GTX 980.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated Smile

If I'm understanding what you're seeing/saying properly, I've seen this on my GTX 660 too. If I remember right turning off AA via the Configurator and enabling it via ForceWare (e.g. create a profile for the game) was the fix; I don't have my GTX 660 hooked up right now though, so I can't double-check that for you. I do know it is a "stupid simple" fix though, for what that's worth. The "in-game AA" is just MSAA iirc, so that's easily enough grabbed from ForceWare. Alternately you could try DSR (since that will bypass AA methods entirely), since the GTX 980 will support that too.

In Oblivion, HDR and AA are incompatible (except AA included in ENB, or SMAA) so it'll probably be the same in Fallout NV.

So, basically what Moto said. :P

Also, if you have a GTX 980, why not try using an ENB anyway? I have a GTX 970 and I can run a Fallout ENB with all effects enabled, highest quality, so you should be able to.

HDR and AA work just fine togther in Fallout 3 and beyond thru the default configurator, and should default on with sufficient hardware during the auto-detect. They were disabled in the configurator in Oblivion for performance and compatibility reasons, but can be forced to work together via the .ini on later SM3.0 and DX10+ cards.

Alright, well simply turning off HDR is probably not an option for me tbh, without it, the game looks a lot worse to me.

I can't seem to find this 'ForceWare' program. From the looks of it, through internet research, it seems obsolete and old. I can't seem to find a proper download for it.

And for DSR, I have no idea what I'm doing with that thing...

Welp, looks like the score so far in the technical difficulties department is Gamebryo: 5, Me: 0.

Man, I hate dealing with old Bethesda (Obsidian) games.

ForceWare = nVidia drivers.

DSR will be activated there too - see this article for more information:

Ok, thanks now I understand what you mean a little better.

I've already tried forcing AA through both Nvidia Control Panel and Nvidia Inspector if that's what you mean. No effect had taken place in-game so I ditched that idea, tbh I always though that forcing AA and enabling AA in-game is the same thing? Is that true?

I guess I'll try DSR, but without guidance I am pretty terrible with these 'ForceWares'.

Don't get me wrong but... Why enabling AA (especially at highest setting) if you're playing in 1080p, which I assume you do? It's a useless ressource overkill imao.
The issues you described are really similar to what you can get when overclocking your GPU too much, but other members above seems to know your issue better than me. Is your GPU OC'ed?

nVidia Inspector is what I use for tweaking game profiles instead of Nvidia Control Panel. You can use it to change the AA compatibility from "0x2000000" to "0x200100C5". You cannot do this with Nvidia Control Panel. Then change "Treat 'Override any application setting' as 'Application-controlled'" to "None" instead. Once these have been tweaked, you should be able to adjust AA from the normal Nvidia Control Panel, and get AA and HDR.

Get a brief guide and link for nVidia Inspector here: http://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:NVIDIA_Inspector
