Game cannot fully initiate log in to servers with correct credentials.

So basically, what's happening is that I'll go to the log in screen, I'll put in my credentials, and tell it to log in, there'll be a brief flash of the "Contacting the Dragon Age Servers" then nothing, it disappears while it's still transparent. Nothing else happens after that. I've tried many times, nothing changes from each time.

This has been happening for around a week now, so I'm pretty sure it's not server end. I've also tried logging in on two completely separate networks, so I don't think it's that either. I've also opened up the port 18081, although I've never had reason to before, no change.

Interestingly enough, it's quick to tell me that I have the wrong credentials, so it's like it can reach the servers, but not actually log in.

If it matters, pressing enter to try and log in only seems to work once, after that it's like the game no longer notices I'm pushing it and will only acknowledge my clicking on the actual log in button until I actually click onto another box, but that may be normal...

Any ideas on what the problem is and how to fix it?

Sounds like the credentials stored in your game settings got borked. Have you successfully logged-on to the BSN directly using the same account?

Once you've verified that you can log-on to the BSN, then go back to the game, change the options so that it does NOT connect automatically, (should then show "logged-off" after you launch the game) and manually log-on again using the same account and pw.

Let us know if that works.

"No change" isn't enough info. Do you mean that you have vaild BSN credentails, and that you ensured that those were thae same ones you're supplying from in-game?

If so, have you verified that the "daupdatersvc" Windows service is funtioning properly? That's what actually manages the connection back to the EA servers and checks your account to validate any DLC you may have, (and offer any you don't. )

Sorry; yes, the credentials I'm using are correct and it still didn't work after disabling the auto-log in.

Not entirely sure how to check and see if the "daupdatersvc" is working. I found it in bin_ship and tried to run it (since it's an .exe) but it gave a Windows Service Start Failure: "Cannot start service from command line or debugger. A Windows Service must first be installed (using installutil.exe) and then started with the ServerExplorer, Windows Service Administrative Tool or the NET START command."

Never heard of the installutil... :S

Right, the executable is a "Windows Service". It's supposed to be installed and configured automagically when the game is. But if something happens to mess it up, none of your usual troubleshooting will discover it.

To check if it may be the issue, do the following:

From your Desktop => Start => Control Panel => Administrative Tools => Services

Look for the service "DAUpdatersvc" and verify its status: should be "blank", unless your running the game at the time, and its Start-up type: should be "Manual".

If the "daupdatersvc" service is NOT listed, then you need to follow the instructions that can be found o the BSN here: "Redeemed DLC Unofficial Troubleshooting and FAQ (PC Only)". See Section "3.2.3" for how to manually install the "daupdatersvc".

Once the service is installed (may require a re-boot to get working) check again. If successul, great!

But if the service was already there, continue as below.

Now start the game and what until you get the "Can't connect" message. Keeping the game running, hit the Windows-key (or Alt-Tab) to get to your Desktop and check the Services again. Status should now be "Started".

If not, you can right-click on the service and select "Start" yourself. For a little while after I added the UE on my own rig I had to do this before launching the game. I had mulitple installs over each other, which seems to have caused a slight hiccough in the "daupdatersvc". (It took two two different corrective steps to get it all sorted.)

But if the service is already running then the problem is elsewhere, like in a firewall rule that's blocking the outbound attempt to connect.

Okay, so there's no DAUpdatersvc, but there is a Dragon Age: Origins - Content Update, I assumed they were the same thing.

It was blank and set to Manual like you said. So I started up DAO and tried to log in, nothing, went back to services, refreshed, and it said it was Started, I tried again just to be sure, but still getting the contacting servers message that fades away as soon as it appears.

Not sure if it matters, but it takes awhile after I close DA for the contend updater to return to blank status. The DLC tab still shows the Feastday Pranks as being available, so unless that's cached then it's still being updated :S

Also, if I click the log in button fast enough it will say that I'm not connected to the internet, which is simply untrue.

Reset my Norton firewall (to no effect) although I've had it for months now and it never caused any problems, but maybe some new update came out recently :S

Yeah, that's the right "human-readable" name for the service, (I couldn't remember it at the time.) So the service appears to be working correctly. And you're trying to log-on within the game using your email address (not your BSN "Username", right?) and EA-account password, so that's not it.

When you go to your Player Entitilements" page on the BSN, does all of your DLC appear?

Try disabling/turning off your firewall (Norton lets you disable for 15 mins with just a couple of clicks) and see what happens. This looks like a situation where something EXTERNAL to the game is interfering with the connection.
