Skyrim Stutter 1fps on good pc Please help

Recommended Posts

SO ive been having some trouble lately with my skyrim. Usually Whenever im in an outdoor area(although it sometimes happens indoors) i have extreme stutter and my fps goes to 1 or 0. The wierd thing is if I look at the sky or ground my fps goes back to around 50. I had skyrim HD 2k textures and i uninstalled it which seemed to work, but the error came back after a few minutes.

Im not sure whats causing this problem but i saw another post of someone who had a similar problem saying to delete my skyrimprefs.ini and skyrim.ini as well as low, medium, high, and very high.ini. I tried this and it worked for a few minutes but the problem came back. I also started a new game but that didnt work either. I have no problems in any other games so as far as I can tell my pc is not at fault.

My PC specs are:

I5 4460

Gtx 970 windforce

8gb Ram

If my english is bad, sorry ^^ hope you can understand it.

I don't know if this is the problem, but the gtx 970 have a problem with it's memory. If the card uses more then 3,5GB vram their can be huge fps drops. So if you're using many high texture mods their can be fps drops cause the card is hitting it's limit of 3,5gb und have to use the 0,5gb reserve.

If i'm right nvida has released drivers that should limit the card to 3,5gb so the reserve will not be used, maybe you should look for new drivers.

Other games may run fine, cause they don't hit the 3,5+gb. (a sample: i'm using a gtx 980 matrix and in bf4 even on max settings with 1440p resolution the card goes only to 3,1gb vram usage) Heavy skyrim mods could maybe easily reach the 3,5gb.

You could try an monitor-program that shows the gpu usage and vram load, this way you could see if the vram limit is hit.

Hope this will help you

Edit: haven't seen that you tried it without the 2k texture mods ... and don't know how to delete my post -.- Maybe this will help, but i think i'm wrong then.

how much VRAM does your graphics card have? and have you been running these particular mods for a while? or have you changed 1 or 2?

something else to check, in your graphics settings, you may want to check to see if your rendering distance is to high (meaning its rendering far away modles, and with more detail) aswell as if detail quality is too high. if you havent changed these settings recently, its a good place to look for any changes.

also, if you deleted all the preferences, then you need to check these settings anyways.

L3s7ing's advice on checking drivers is a good tip to. you want to check to be sure your drivers are up to date.
