Reaching the End

Ya know, when I install Skyrim on my comp, the game AI tells me that I can play at the Ultra High settings. I've got an AMD 7700, Quad Core CPU, 18 G of RAM, and a decent soundcard. However, over the last several hours of gameplay my comp has been continually messing up. I've uninstalled and reinstalled...including new downloads from Steam. I use the latest iteration of LOOT for mod sorting. Then I follow that with FNIS. I've reduced the number of active mods to about seventy-five. It still crashes to desktop at odd, totally unpredictable moments. Behavior is bizarre at various moments. FREX, I'll be in the middle of game play and all of a sudden the sound for clicking on various items of a list will go out. At that point I know it's gonna lock up and I need to be ready for a shut down. Weird stuff like that happens all the time now. Got no idea why. I used to be able to run ten followers and a ton of mods. I probably need to do a total reformat of my hard drive...I mean down to the bare bones(so to speak). Either that or I'm just gonna get rid of all my mods...except for my Lydia. I really like Beans work with her. Looks just right, what with the serious scars and all. Then I'm gonna drop play level down to noob entry and run vanilla just cause I've never played the Solstheim business to the end. At that level I really wouldn't need any followers at all but I kinda like the company...strange, I know. Then I'd be pretty well able to leave TESV. Sheese, I've played this game for nearly 7000 real hours. That's a fair chunk of my life. Still, it beats Solitaire and watching the grass grow.

Lol.

First of all, is your pc well cooled and dusted? This can really effect it.

Second, use MO. You will never have to take that Skyrim CD from it box, or clean you data folder ever again.

It doesn't matter how many mods, it all up to what the mods do themselves. A follower replacer won't crash your system,

Are you using enboost? Wryr bash? Messed up your ini files? Cleaned you esms? Updated your mods? Made sure they don't conflict? There is so many ways to mess up.

LOL! Yeah, I know about the potential for conflicts. All this really got started when I did a lot of mod upgrades for mods like the group of remades and what not that CCO's part of. I ran NMM for all of them of course, and then ran FNIS just to play safe. Didn't help. Then I went back to NMM, went to Plugins, deactivated all of them, and then tested all of them in batches of three over a very long period of time. Thought I had found the culprit, but that turned out to not be the case. Don't know what to do now. Never used MO before. Daughter says she doesn't like it as well as NMM. I don't use any of the other items you mentioned, such as enboost.

Thing is, my comp was set up just the way I liked it, game was running fine, but noooo, I couldn't leave well enough alone. Now it's a mess and I'm at the end of my tether. I suspect that some of the upgrades are behind all the problems but for the life of me I can't pin it down.
