Overwriting files

I'm still not fully understanding the options with overwriting files (depending on the types of mods) after reading several posts about the differences with "Yes to all, Yes to Mod, etc." in NMM.

I installed The Ningheim Race mod, then I was trying to install Better males mod, but I got prompted to confirm overwrite:

Data file '\meshes\armor\bandit\bootsm_0.nif' has already been installed by 'The Ningheim Race'.

Activate this mod's file instead?

My goal isn't to play as a Ningheim male, so would it be fine to overwrite (say Yes to Mod)?

What you'd have to decide is which mesh you prefer, and or which might be necessary. If the meshes a virtually identical in appearance, then overwriting is usually fine. Normally this is more of a problem with female meshes due to the vast number of Bounce and Jiggle and High Heel and what not's and the major competing Body Types being incompatible with each other. Male meshes are usually safer. (the _m part of the mesh name generally signifies it's the male version of the mesh. Some armours the male and female both wear the same boots/gauntlets, but usually the female versions have a _f in the name)

In your case, I would look to see if there are any images of the boots for both of the mods, and see if there are any noticeable differences. Then check to make sure one or the other doesn't use a custom "skeleton" as this can sometimes cause issues with body/feet/hand/head not lining up correctly or the mod simply crashing the game. Generally good mod authors will advise in their description if a custom skeleton is required, if not, then you can either overwrite or skip and it probably won't make any difference.

Believe in this case its fine to overwrite. I have used both of those mods in the past.

To save yourself the headache in future of trying to decide what order to install and what overwrites what......use Mod Organizer. Much much better. You can install things in whatever order you want and then mod organizer will show you what overwrites what and you can move things around to decide what get priority and wins out.
