Welcome to the discussion thread for Merlini Magia. Here, roleplayers may post their character sheets, put up pics of their characters, discuss the RP, and handle any other OOC (out of character) business.

*There should be no OOC posts in the RP thread itself.*

Merlini Magia is an RP based on the Arthurian world of Camelot and its environs. With a pseudo 14th-15th century medieval European setting in an alternate universe, this RP is the story of a group of modern people pulled to Arthur's realm by the magic of Merlin; the wizard has seen that this band of ragtag "adventurers" can save the realm from certain doom, and he is taking all measures to ensure that they do...

Here are some general guidelines that should be followed when posting in Merlini Magia, originally made by Lisnpuppy.

1) Have fun. If you are finding yourself always irritated or unhappy...then why are you here. Figure out the issue or go do something else.

2) Never forget the line between RP In Character and Out of Character and don't cross it. It is easy, especially when you have particularly intense RP, to take things personally. Don't....99% of the time it isn't all about you.

3) Start with a well-made character. Have a decent background and personality to make your RP more fun and easier. Your character doesn't have to be set in stone. But having a solidly made character is important or your RP may peter out. Have your character have likes/dislikes, goals, dreams, an arch-enemy....this will help you flesh them out even more and bring them to life.

4) Relationship RP should be the ICING not the CAKE! Make it a side-quest if you will...not the main one.

5) You have to give a little to get a little. We all have RP storylines in which we want others to engage. That is what makes it fun, right? But if you find a friend knee-deep in a RP of their own, don't come in and hijack the RP for yourself or refuse to participate because its not all about YOU. Have fun and throw your lot in with them! Trust me, when your time comes around, people will remember that you play well with others.

6) Don't be a MaryJane! Don't decide that you are going to be a half-dragon or the long-lost illegitimate son of the King of Whoville. It doesn't work, it probably isn't in the lore anywhere, and it will lead only to your RP downfall. Eventually your “special” character will begin to dominate everyone else and their RP. No one will want to play with you...so make your character special in other ways.

7) No godmoding!! Remember, you only control YOUR character and not others. When you RP, do not take over the actions of other Rpers.

For example: Jon casts a frostbolt at Matt knocking him back into the wall and breaking his arms.

Instead try: Jon cast a frostbolt hoping to hit Matt and knocking him out of the way.

This allows the other player to take action. You can have decided before hand how this will go out. You can roll to see what actions happen or how bad an injury is.

8 ) Soap Opera-ing. Many of us have wanted to play our character as crazy, a total badass or having an illness or amnesia. Those can all be valid and fun stories. The doom is in taking it too far or too long. These kind of stories ultimately leave little RP options for those around you. Always have movement and a goal in your RP...otherwise it goes nowhere.

9) Be willing to RP with anyone, anytime. Just because you are in a guild or Rping with a friend doesn't mean you can't include others. Walk-Up RP can lead to great things...or simply pass the time for a bit. If others don't RP EXACTLY like you...no sweat. Perhaps they are new and need some gentle guidance. So be open to everything!

10) Communication is the key. Always establish your RP boundaries when you are Rping with someone long-term. If you don't like swearing...or a particular kind of violence...or if you will take anything coming down the pike! Let others know. It avoids awkward and unpleasant conversations later.

A few more rules to add:

11) Canon Arthurian characters will be role-played by myself.

12) No abuse of magic. Teleportation or resurrection in particular are not allowed.

13) No strong sexual content. Just because your character/characters/favorite vassals are in a relationship, it doesn't mean that everyone wants to read what they are doing in their private time.

14) You are limited to ONE main character. Side characters are allowed, but they must be in and out very quickly...no becoming a permanent part of the story.

15) All members are expected to post a minimum of once per week. If a member fails to post again within a week after his or her most recent post, it will result in that member receiving a warning and only one more week to post in the RP before he or she is removed from MM entirely. Exceptions to this rule include personal issues such as those involving work, school, family, etc., but members are required to inform me about them. If something arises that keeps a member from the RP, they can just let me know, and that member will be excused from posting until he or she can officially return.

Additionally, it is important (not to mention courteous) to take turns posting. If you are waiting on a roleplayer to interact with you, and they have not posted in a few days, PM them...they may be busy or may have simply forgotten that it was his or her turn to post. Please be considerate.

Name: Dr. Katherine Breckenridge (Kerensa of Cornwall)

Gender: Female

Age: 28

Physical Description: Katherine is usually relatively plain when it comes to appearance; she is of average height, pale-skinned, and slightly on the thin side (though she does have some curves). She has chestnut blonde hair, streaked with natural gold highlights, and light hazel eyes that are more green than brown. She has an oval face, with a slightly long nose and a thin mouth. Her shoulder-length, loosely wavy hair she usually keeps in a ponytail or a bun. The only time she ever looks remotely striking is when she puts on heavier makeup, which is only when she is working at Renaissance Faires or at other similar events.

Equipment/Clothing: Katherine usually wears pantsuits or knee-length a-line dresses to work, but she is currently attired in a burgundy peasant-top and faded slim-leg jeans with brown sandals.

Background: Katherine Breckenridge is just a professor of Medieval Studies who has recently been let go due to lack of demand for her courses. In summers, she works at Renaissance Faires as a "bard," as she has a modicum of talent with the whistle and the harp. Her alias at festivals is "Kerensa of Cornwall."

Name: Benjamin "Moccasin" Keith

Gender: Male

Age: 19

Physical Description: With broad shoulders, a well-toned physique, and a noticeably tall height, Benjamin's admirable appearance betrays his athletic nature, although he does not exhibit much bulk in terms of muscle; his dark olive skin color and oily black hair also make it difficult to conceal his Cherokee lineage. Caring little about maintaining his appearance, Benjamin often tends to have his messy, unkempt hair pulled back into a simple ponytail and often has dark circles around his deeply set, intently focused brown eyes.

Equipment/Clothing: Benjamin's preferred attire almost exclusively consists of worn-in blue jeans with plaid flannel shirts when he is relaxing, but he commonly wears cargo shorts with faded tee shirts while he is exercising or working. If he isn't in his comfortable running shoes, Benjamin is most often seen wearing his heavy work boots.

Background: Being the oldest of four children of a grieving widowed mother and a recently deceased father, Benjamin dropped out of high school during senior year at the age of eighteen to support his family by working at a mechanic's shop owned by his grandfather on his father's side. While he was close to his father and was broken after his death, Benjamin felt an obligation to remain as stoic and reserved as possible for the sake of being the new man of the house. The following year was desolate for Benjamin as his friends branded him as a pitiful dropout, but he did find some solace when focusing on his work; the intricate and almost rhythmic nature of working on machinery and vehicles proved to be one of Benjamin's greatest escapes from his distress. On the rare occasion when he wasn't working or with his family, Benjamin often spent his time exercising and self-teaching himself mixed martial arts in a frail hope of committing to his childhood dream of being a champion mixed martial artist.

Name: Ardan Daithi

Gender: Male

Age: 22

Physical Description: Ardan doesn't strike a very imposing figure, standing at just under 5'11" and weighing at 150 lbs. Though slight, growing up in a rural farm community has given him a wiry strength, and Ardan possesses excellent balance and mobility due to his fascination with ninjutsu whilst away at college. Blue-eyed, pale, and with short red head, Ardan would likely stick out in a crowd more often if not for his unassuming, quiet nature. Neither ugly nor handsome, he has a rounded face, with a larger-than-average nose with a nigh-imperceptible crookedness, and soft laugh lines and dimples from smiling a lot (a testament of his Irish ancestry).

Equipment/Clothing: Ardan is often found wearing casual jeans and t-shirts with some random, humorous (to him, at least) quote or image on it, with a pair of worn tennis shoes. As he has been practicing a lot lately for an upcoming ninjutsu convention, Ardan has been carrying around a backpack with some of his ninja gear, which includes a kunai, a couple of shuriken, some rope, and a modern ninjato sword.

Background: Ardan is the middle child of 7 brothers and sisters, and grew up with his parents and siblings in a rural community. Though he was easy-going, intelligent, quick to laugh, hardworking, and graduated among the top students of his high school class, Ardan preferred spending time in the outdoors and with his books as opposed to playing sports or joining school clubs, and was never particularly ambitious. Largely due to this last attribute, he has had some trouble in recent times after managing to enroll in college, one of the first in his family, and has been struggling to maintain his grades as he tries to choose a degree to follow. When a friend, seeing as to how stressed he was, introduced him to the ninjutsu club to help bring some focus and balance to his life, Ardan took to it with a passion, finding the stealth-based martial art suitable to his introverted nature, and has gone on to earn a black belt and some stability in his life.

He has a small scar on his right cheek from the tip of a dull practice sword and another across the left corner of his lips from a bar brawl in London. He has rough hands from years of sword practice and numerous smaller scars and prior wounds from his time as a soccer player and motorcycle rider.

Equipment/Clothing: Wears a Sounders FC t-shirt, a souvenir from his home city. He often wears dark pants and skate shoes along with his favorite fingerless gloves and a rosary around his right wrist.

Background: Andre was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. Spent his formative years playing soccer, the son of a wealthy american businessmen and a french archaeology teacher at the University Of Washington, Andre grew up with a passion for history, but a love of it's more athletic aspects. Grue, your character is approved.

Mac, your character sounds too good to be true - like he could breeze through anything we encounter without difficulty at all. It just so happens that he can ride a horse, sword fight, AND speak French? That's not a good sign. Try removing some of the obvious advantages he has that would make problems non-existent.

Also, your equipment part is incomplete.

Just as a note, the idea at the beginning of the RP is that these characters will be "zapped" to the same general area - a stone, sconce-lit building. I'd like them to meet up with each other fairly quickly.

Read up on my first post if you'd like an example of how to approach this.

*waves at everyone* I'd like to play, if I am permitted?

Name: Rose MacMurrough

Gender: Female

Age: mid-twenties

Physical Description:

Rose is small of stature (topping 5'2'' when stretching a lot!) and has a slim but feminine figure. Her hair is black with a red under-tone (as apposed to the blue tone of natural black hair many Asians possess.) and is cut in a style of what could be described as fairy punk rock (short, messy and often colorful, though at its present it is only black). It often looks more like she simply got out of bed and ran her hand about on the top of her skull, rather than showered and fixed it this way. Her eyes are large and grey-green (depending on what she wears, the weather or her mood it can be one, the other or both.) She has a complexion that seems like she is slightly tanned, but is not. She counts both Irish and Native American in her ancestry. She has a slight accent of what would be described as "country."

Equipment/Clothing: She wears a pair of well-loved jeans, converse Harley Quinn high-tops and a t shirt reading, "Chaotic Evil means never having to say your sorry" and a thin black zip up jacket with pockets. She carried a canvas messenger bag which has an assortment of colored pens, small notebooks, two pairs of socks, a change of undies and misc candy. There is also two band-aids and a small tube of neosporin ( as she had a blister on her foot) and one slightly-used handkerchief. There is also an unread, hand-written letter in an envelope saying, "To my darling, Rosey Girl on her big adventure" ((note this is now read.))

Background: Her parents, both habitual drug users left her with her Irish grandmother to raise and she learned everything she would later love at her Nanna's knee. Raised to appreciate the work of the past and stories of ancient times, Rose has a Masters Degree in Classics and can read, ancient and modern Greek but she can not speak it or really understand it spoken much. At her Nanna's insistence she is taking some time off to explore the world. Rose is slightly introverted. At times she can be very charming and outgoing, at others it is almost as if spending time in close contact with others makes her physically sick. She has a wicked sense of humor, a love for animals and secretly longs to be a stand up comedian-she writes jokes in the notebooks she carries in her bag.
