Settlements getting annoying

I played around 50 hours now and this game is okay but the settlements getting annoying.

After i did a quest for a settlement the radioman says that a settlement is under attack and needs help...

I have around 15 settlements (didn't count them) and defense is up to 50+ on everyone.

I can't play other quests because settlement quests are primary, i invested many mats into them and don't want them to get destroyed.

To protect all settlements well you need to jump through them. Haven't seen alot of the commonwealth and ingame already 60 days over just because by jumping from settlement to settlement.

If i ignore the quests or don't take a look from time to time, i might get a settler killed or all defense structures will be destroyed.

This is just annoying.

Sounds like your own fault for stretching yourself too thin. Don't build an empire if you can't defend it / can't stand to lose a little.

That sort of thing.

Doesn't actually mean anything here. The system itself is fundamentally flawed from certain perspectives. I have settlements which are fully built up, over 200 defense (in some cases even using a memory editor to have a larger building budget so that I can even build that many). And I still get a settlements attacked one after another. It's not a matter of how developed they are as it becomes a matter of ending up with literally 20 some inhabited settlements that the game forces onto you as you do quests. Many of these settlements have NPCs on them from default who cannot be moved to other locations, forcing you to spend the time and resources to build them up. When you have that many settlements, you just become more subject to the problems of randomly generated events.

Vagrant0 that's pity to hear, that increasing defense to 200 takes no effect. I actually spend most of my playtime by setting up the settlements and now it's becoming a farce.

I just can't start a new game because i already explored so much, have so much perks and loot, it's just not unreasonable.

I only have 9 settlements, but still its kinda annoying when I gear up for a quest or prepare for some exploration and are ready to go, but then the settlement is under attack quest appears and I have to change my plans. I decided to fully invest in 5 out of my 9 settlements and if one of the other settlements gets attacked and I am not in the mood to defend it, well they have to manage on their own.

But this "forced" participation in the defense of the settlements should be deactivated as soon as you have made strong enough defenses for a settlement. Personally I don't see any reason in the turrets or traps, because when I am there and helping to defend the settlement I usually have my power armor and use some jet and then just take all the attackers down on my own with my sniper rifle and the turrets have barely any chance to open fire on the enemies. So they should do the work and keep the settlements safe when I am not around.

It's just needing some significant patching to fix some of the bugs related to fluctuating resource values. I've had to essentially abandon Sanctuary hill because the water and bed counts were always getting bugged. I ended up making 10 water pumps and an industrial filtering station, sending a provisioner from red rocket, and building a total of 40 beds right near the landing point with no change. I'm thinking that similar bugs might be the culprit here too.

Still wish that they went for quality of settlements over the quantity of settlements. Letting us completely build up a few large locations and about 6 or 7 smaller ones, Then spent more time either adding things that we could build with, increasing the settler maximums, and making other areas just NPC controlled and functioning on their own. There could still be just as many quests, just as much tie-in to the Brotherhood/Minutemen stuff... Just not being yet a settlement that you are personally responsible for managing. As is it feels like they looked at the interest from games like Rust, H1Z1, ect, liked the idea of player-built cities, and decided to base too much of the game on it.

Dedicate your time to one or two settlements. Let the others do what ever.

I recommend Hangmans Alley because the way it is layed out allows for Tower defense type defenses. I'm in love with my little settlement and my my next plan is to build settlement expansion systems when the tools come out.

Well, no... Let me explain things. I have my settlements walled off and turreted heavily enough to where things pretty much die as soon as I travel to the location. The only actual settler deaths I've had have been related to synth infiltrators (where essentially one of my merchants or settlers decide to get murdery). And yes, I even have turrets covering my market and sleeping areas. For all intents and purposes I don't even need to be there to do anything other than witness it. I've had attacks on Covenent where I have no less than 16 heavy machinegun turrets just outside the front gate. Synths and raiders just get shredded before anyone even opens the front doors.

The problem is that if you don't immediately drop everything you're doing and run over, you magically lose the attack and several settlers... Just because you weren't there to stand witness. I've gone on to prove this by means of save scumming.

Yeah that's why I only concentrate on Hangmans Alley. It is my one stop shop for everything and if it comes under attack it is incidental.

I do though understand the frustration if you want to have everything running optimally. It'll be something I look into when I work on the settlement expansion mod. My intentions for the mod are to scale the boundaries of the settlement out for more building space when you reach population milestones and have it reset the build cap. This is kinda like any of those games where you need to build houses in order to increase your population or even Falloutshelter requires pop milestones to unlock buildings... hey now that's an idea...

I'll keep that in mind to block invasions when your defense ratings are exceeding the population by like 25-33%.
