Preston Garvey and his crew stuck at the Museum of Freedom

Hey guys! I'm currently having an issue with one of the followers in Fallout 4

[Minor Spoilers]

So what's happening is that Preston and his crew are still at the Museum of Freedom after finishing several quests from him, from "When freedom Calls" to "The First Step" including building Sanctuary with food, power and water. However right after "The first step" i noticed that Preston and the crew left Sanctuary and couldn't find them at all, so i kept to my own business after that, finally after a while doing other quests i went inside the museum again and found them all there, when they should be at Sanctuary, i tried talking to Preston and he speaks and follows me without any problem, but if i dismiss him he goes back to the museum instead of sanctuary.

This could be aslo the reason why i haven't been able to start the next quest about taking over the castle.

I do have a few settlements including "The first step" settlement up to a 70% hapiness, however i have only saved the farm from a raider attack, i don't know if this has something to do with the problem, however i don't get messages anymore about settlements being in trouble.

The issue here is that i can't backtrack to before this problem because i'm way too far into the main story and side quests so far that would be at least a day or 2 of full gameplay, sadly i came to realize that it was a bug too late.

If someone knows a way to fix this or at least get the next mission moving that'd be great, any kind of help is apreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hate to be "one of those guys" but "I also have this bug". Minus the quest thing that is, he still gives quests and I still get settlement updates, its just preston and the other 4 decided to slide on back to that sweet museum of Freedom for no reason, and now they won't leave. they TALK about leaving, but they wont actually do it. It's mostly just annoying rather than gamebreaking for me, because they are still registered as living in sanctuary.

Things I have tried

- placing preston in sanctuary with console (doesn't help, only copies him)

-making sanctuary have no issues (removing the warning symbol in the workshop tab of pipboy) result: they dont care, the museum is nicer I suppose...

-completing all quests for preston (don't know why I tried this but it didn't help)

Any suggestions on what else to try? Assume my gamefile is the same as yours, working as intended, except preston thinks he is supposed to be travelling to sanctuary but wont actually do it.

Sounds very weird of an issue. I didn't have it but then again, I personally escorted the crew from Concord to Sanctuary. I know it sounds stupid and obvious but have you completely exited the game and reloaded the save? I've had a weird issue with the Railroad arc where I couldn't open the Old Mission Door again and the only way to fix it was exiting the game entirely. The door all the sudden worked when returning to the save. The game has some weird mission bugs here and there, where NPC dialogue doesn't continue like it should.

Tried restarting, doesn't work. im well past the start of the game, ive taken the castle and all, a lot of settlements too. Tried moving them all to sanctuary by console. They run back to the museum. if i had the quest id for when freedom calls i might be able to wiggle with that a bit and see if I can get these sheeple heading in the right direction.

I've been thinking about that since that worked a few times before with Skyrim, pretty sure it could in Fallout 4, if you do find somehting let us know x)

Did you finish codsworth's quest before going to concord?

I had this issue and went back and did Codsworth's, then concord, saved the Deathclaw for last and then checked in with Preston. That seemed to work. No suspect it was because I skipped codsworth on the last play through.

Just throwing this out there as a possibility, but ... what if Bugthesda "moved" the Sandbox or "home" location of Presto Gravy and the gang of idiots because of the Settlement Raid system being introduced with Nuka World?

If you did Nuka World before meeting Presto, that would kinda invalidate the whole "going to the safe place Ugly Murphy saw" thing. Also if you kill Presto in a "Raid" that would negate any possibility of continuing to get the "Another settlement needs your help" quests.

Maybe there is supposed to be some sort of "walking out in a huff to escape you, you evil Raider you", dialogue/cutscene that occurs if you attack Sanctuary, and the "move to" it's triggering early because ... <insert Ron Perlman voiceover> "Bughtesda ... Bugthesda never changes"
