Deat god, what have I done...

Long story short:

Got F4

Played the game for nearly 30 hours
Decided I wanted to use mods
I installed a few mods manually
Yes, the .ini files too
Game crashed while trying to load save
Uninstalled mods manually to the best of my ability
Game still crashes
Re-installed mods with NMM

They don't work with NMM
(I can tell because I had the depth of field mod, and it made my text blurry when I had it installed manually)
Tried disabling them with NMM
Nope, save doesn't load

New save works fine
But the mods don't at all
(I can tell because the beautiful eyes were not showing in the create a character, and no blurry text)
Almost had a heart attack when I tried to load old saves, as they weren't there
Found them in documents, backed them up

Now I'm stuck, can't load saves
New game works, without mods, but I don't want to restart it all
Halp

I just want to play the old saves with new mods :[
(see photo for list of mods)

Double check the sResourceDataDirsFinal

in your .ini.

By default it reads: sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\

If you are able to load into main menu, but crash when loading a save game, one of the causes can be wrong formatting of that line. check the commas, the proper syntax is:

sResourceDataDirsFinal=<directory-name>\, <directory-name>\, <directory-name>\

I managed to break it for myself as well.

Yup. That's exactly what it was, as I copy/pasted it right from the mod's install directions.

Then I removed everything after STRINGS/ when it didn't work. Still no luck.

But yes, main menu loads perfectly

in that case, try:

1) check if the line does not appear in .ini twice

2) check if there is no fallout4.ini in data directory (it overrides the one in my documents directory if i remember correctly)

3) backup and remove all .ini filies from my games\fallout4

4) last ditch: remove all the mods first in NMM (if not done already), then clear (delete) all sub-dirs of data folder (you may skip the video dir, if no mod changed that) and removal of all non-stock .esm's etc <- this will require steam file integrity check to re-download missing stuff. Check if game works. Enable mods one-by one, checking if it works after each one.

Alright, I'll give all that a shot.

Any source where I can download working .ini files for the game?

And does it make a difference, that I don't have this game through steam?

If you delete the ones in your My Documents, game will re-create them with default values on next launch. I suggest you run the launcher-config thingy to be sure.

Wait wat? Fallout 4 requires steam. No matter how you purchased it (boxed versions as well), just go to steam and validate game archive in properties.

Alright, so no luck. I uninstalled everything, and game crashed upon startup.

I really feel like i'm in a pickle now...

Yup, and because you triggered the no pirates allowed filter, you get banned as a pirate - until you can show us a steam account with the game installed.
