For me the player.equipitem didn't work until I did player.unequipitem first. Also the number after you get by typing player.inv and looking it up. it different for each person fyi.

not sure if this is helpful as I don't know how to fix it once it happens. The build your own pool mod will remove your pip boy if you go swimming. To stop this mod from doing that you have to open the menu listed at the bottom of the misc items and tell it not to remove the pipboy.when you go in water. There may be other mods that remove the pip boy but that's the one I know about.

No, it ain't. It's a vanilla object and has a fixed form ID.

I was able to just use the Player.inv  to get the pipboy number.  Then use the Player.equipitem XXXXXX  and mine was back.

But your vid showed me where to start!  So thanks for that!!

This totally worked for me thanks for the edumacation!

Not sure if posting this so late after the original post is considered a foul (and I personally don't care if it is) - because this is a relevant fix for my (similar) problem. I feel that too late is better than never... My issue involved Nexus Mods I had going that were conflicting. Armor Mods Expanded - More Slots Edition and the other similar mod, More Armor Slots (which I hadn't realized was also installed), were causing an invisible pipboy situation that none of these previously mentioned fixes (and those found on other sites) were working for restoring my access to my inventory and other pipboy interface menus. Sometimes its a mod conflict. Most times, if none of the previously suggested repairs work for you, check for items/armor/wearables mod conflicts. Disable those variety of mods one by one (re-enabling the ones that aren't the problem) until the issue is corrected.

What steve40 said, player.equipitem 21b3b is what worked for me. I arrived at that code based on KageKouin's suggestion of entering "Player.inv" into console and looking back in the history to find the pipboy ID code. Turns on it's the same as Steve40's, so it's probably the same for everyone. I'm loading an old save after a complete re-install of Fallout and my 400 mods. I kid you not. I had 399 mods working harmoniously until I lost a hard drive. The invisible PipBoy was one of the issues that no longer is. There are a few minor one left, but the fact I can even load my old save is AMAZING. Thanks to everyone suggestions. In general even. For every suggestion, you help 100 or 1000 people solve their issue. Sure maybe there's hundred's or thousands more that it doesn't help, but the ones it does and very, very grateful. Now if fixing bugs in Windows 10 was as easy...

Item numbers will be different based on your installed DLCs.

Search for the Pipboy code: "help pipboy 4"

Pick the lowest number in the "ARMO" category: "ARMO: (0006d7b8) 'Pipboy'"  <------ My pick

Add that Pipboy to your inventory: "player.additem 6d7b8 1"

Equip the newly added Pipboy: "player.equipitem 6d7b8"

Omit all the quotation marks you see above.
